Snacks to reduce the dawn effect glucose spike

I have found that a small amount of black beans with the evening meal at 6-7pm, and I'm talking 2 tablespoons, did help with the overnight roller coaster blood glucose levels. Didn't go so low, didn't rise quite so high. Dunno why, probably the slow release of carbs. I am mostly carnivorous.

    Feet neuropathy

I have it in my feet. It's horrible, I got permanent numbness and occasional shooting games pains that fortunately only last a few seconds, plus the numbness and lack of ability to move my feet much makes putting on shoes and socks a long term project, and walking on uneven ground precarious...

    Anyone got diabetic retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is something worth avoiding. I've been treated with eylea injections and had one eye lazered Eylea was superceded with a new injection treatment which is very much better, treatment went from every five weeks to currently 3 monthly. The only way to avoid this is good...

Snacks to reduce the dawn effect glucose spike

It never crossed my mind to eat to stop this. My blood was going from around 3 @ 3am and rising to above 10, usually to 12-15. I'd take fast insulin, but the more insulin I used the more glucose I'd produce. Also if I did some physical work my liver would go into overdrive again and shoot for...

Pharmacy refusal to sell thrush medication

Its not just women that get thrush, when on tablets it was a real problem for me and tesco pharmacy were particularly unhelpful . Fortunately I'm not the shy retiring type so when asked "what's it for and what type of canistan do you want" I announced in a loud voice its for my (male chicken)...

    Soups and stews please

If you roast a chicken fill the carcase with carrot onion and potatoes. It keeps the meat moist, roast breast side down then turn over to brown the top before serving. Once the carcase is left, drop it in some water to cover, add a stock cube if you want and simmer with those veggies still in...

Berberine - has anyone used this instead of Metformin in Type 2 diabetes?

I tolerated Metformin quite well @4×500mg per day. I did try Berberine for a while, only 2 capsules a day with no detrimental effects, and it may marginally have lowered my GL, but it was marginal and as metformin is free on NHS I didn't think it was worth taking, especially as it could contain...

    In praise of Scotch Eggs.

Personally I find it easier to make a mayo or a Hollandaise Sauce with my trusty immersion type blender, it literally takes 2 mins, a bit longer with the melted butter and done in a mug there's no washing up, the mug does in the fridge. But I really appreciate the product suggestions it's very...

    In praise of Scotch Eggs.

I suspect the homemade mayo helps. Eggs, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, mustard, salt and good quality olive oil. I think the acid helps and the oil slows absorption and reduces the spike. But I'm guessing and just experimenting with my new CGM, it's great to have immediate feedback.

    In praise of Scotch Eggs.

As we all know, treats and cheats come at a price. As a carb addict, sailing past the bakery Isle with my nose in the air has become a personal habit in supermarkets. All those treats and snacks have been ruthlessly purged from the cupboards in the house and are no longer available. But still an...
