COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

Here in San Diego, all essential workers who interface with the public have been wearing masks for a number of weeks now. As of this Friday, May 1st, anyone who leaves their home has to wear a mask or covering of some type. I have been wearing one for about 6 weeks now and am comfortable wearing...

    Tips?

I am a G6 user and in order to keep the sensor secure for 10 full days (assuming it functions for that entire time) I use skintac (or equivalent) and the Dexcom overpatches which Dexcom provides at no charge. I tried other commercially available patches but the Dexcom patches irritate me the least.

    Low carb

ham roll-ups are great - thin slice of ham rolled up with chopped, cheese, tomato and cucumber inside. tuna salad in lettuce cups large tomatoes with insides scooped out (not wasted though) and filled with chunky peanut butter egg salad scooped up with celery sticks avocados galore......

    Alpha lipoic acid

My orthopedist recommended taking several supplements to address leg neuropathy due to spinal stenois, radiculitis etc. I gave the list of supplements to my Endo just to make sure none of them adversely affected my BGLs. He was fine with me taking all of them and went on to say that he recently...

    High numbers

Steroids will raise your blood glucose levels. I experienced this with steroid shots in the joints of my feet. Two shots simultaneously caused a significant raise in BGL for several days, however one subsequent shot only resulted in a small spike for about 24 hours

PORRIDGE made with water or low fat milk?

Despite the fact that I have to take more insulin, I always eat oatmeal made with full milk, a few berries and some nuts. It has so much more flavor. I make a batch on Sundays and keep it in the fridge at work. I tried making some of the fake oatmeal recipes using Chia and Flax seeds - it...

    Please don’t stop posting...

What a fantastic and encouraging post this was! - followed by dozens and dozens of wonderfully personal responses. Just goes to show how much in common we have in dealing with the same issues and how important the support network is to all of us. Happy New Year to everyone.

    Freestyle Libre

I am a Dexcom G6 user - also used G4 for a number of years - and I used Skintac quite frequently. It is very effective as a sticky barrier. Smith and Nephew also make a similar product but the name of it escapes me at the moment. However, since I learned from the G6 labeling that skintac is not...

LCHF or WFPB Diet for T1Ds

So likely would be foods with higher fiber? That's a good point, thank you.

    Type 1 Dexcom G6

I know it is very expensive. I live in the US and only converted over because I was able to switch over to a different (better) insurance policy so my out of pocket expenses for the G6 were considerably less. With my old insurance I probably would not have been able to manage it. Does that...

LCHF or WFPB Diet for T1Ds

I have been following a LCHF diet since my diagnosis over 4 years ago. I have recently read articles on the benefits of a whole foods plant based diet for T1Ds - and wondered if any of the forum members who are T1D have any experience from following both types of diets? I have never been a big...

    Type 1 Dexcom G6

I just converted from the G4 to G6 last week. I love the redesigned applicator/sensor and how quick and easy it is to insert. But the receiver is bulky and since my Android phone is not compatible, I need the receiver on me at all times. Trying to wean myself off finger sticks but that may take...

How Long Does Your Dexcom Sensor Last?

Thanks for this information. Wow..... That length of use is amazing. I need to figure out how I can get more out of mine. I found your comment about the subcutaneous environment failing interesting. That may explain why people do have such varying degrees of success with their sensor usage. I...

How Long Does Your Dexcom Sensor Last?

Appreciate all the replies. Your routines all seem very similar to mine with the exception of having to shave tummy first:)All of you seem to get much more time out of your sensors than I. Any thoughts as to why? This drives me nuts due to the expense of having to change sensors frequently...
