Can my diabetes nurse change my Insulin on request?

Earlier this year I had diabetic review by the nurse at my surgery. I don’t normally have this as I would normally attend the clinic at my local hospital but as I got to see a nurse face to face itook the opportunity. There really wasn’t much she could help me with but I asked if I could get...

    How low is too low?

The problem with running with low but acceptable glucose levels ie 4-5 mmol is that your body gets used to this low level and your hypo awareness although still there will likely be at a level where you are having a hypo before you realise how low you’ve become.

How much alcohol is needed to induce hypoglycemia in a normally diabetic person who is not on diabetic control medication?

I think it’s one unit of alcohol takes the liver 1 hour to process during which it’s not releasing glycogen.

How often do u change the lancets

For me it used to be ‘when they bend’. People don’t realise how lucky they are in this day and age. We also never had Facebook groups like U.K. freestyle Libre where people moan and moan about their cgm problems.

    Libre 2 questions

Are you supported by a Diabetes specialist that you see on a regular basis. This could be a diabetic nurse or a doctor. If you’re using a Libre 2, presumably self funded, you should look on the Abbott Libre website for help. You should have a Libre account which will enable you to download...

    Libre 2 signal loss

That’s not necessary using a cgm and now no different to Dexcom where there is no facility to scan. Your cgm readings are automatically placed on your LibreView account which is what is seen by you Diabetes team. Where I would say that scanning is advisable is when you take your insulin, carbs...

    Car hypo treatment

Chocolate bar, biscuits, milk and that type of thing are not quick acting solutions to a hypo. Quick acting solutions are jelly babies, fruit pastiles and drinks such as coke or lucozade. I buy a 3 kg pack of jelly babies from Amazon’s d keep the pack in a 2.5 litre sealing plastic bag I get...

    Freestyle Libre 2 Problems

This is a very common problem that you see reported on the Facebook group. I recently had two sensors replaced by Abbott on two consecutive days. Couldn’t get my iPhone to scan and get a result consistently. Sometimes if I scanned a number of times I’d get a result but the alarms were not...

Freestyle stytle libre 2 not scanning sensor?

Most phones particularly Apple iPhone don’t have the ability to switch nfc off and on. The only way I know of checking whether or not the nfc is working is to use it to pay for something using a debit/credit card stored on your Apple/Google wallet or Apple/Google pay which is the basic reason...

Type 2 Blood sugar shot up with positive COVID test

I was out with family on Saturday we had a light lunch out, my blood sugar was normal and I gave my normal injection for what I ate. When I checked my Libre reading later it was shooting up and so I added an adjustment dose to bring it down but it went up to nearly 16 before I got it down but it...

    Hypers and hot weather

I am having the exact opposite at the moment with this weather, I am getting low BG alarms. The problem is the basal level of insulin rather than the bonus. I have reduced mine from 24 down to 21 over several days. [edited by mod]

    Glucose Testing

Quick acting insulin, Novo Rapid for example, works over 4 hours. After the 1st hour 25% of the dose will have been used up, after 2 hours 50%, 3 hours 75% and after 4 hours the dose has finished. Remembering this is a good way to be able to make decisions about correction doses. Using the Libre...

    Which monitor?

I’ve started testing a minimum of 8 times a day. I’ll be seeing my diabetic nurse in April and based on me testing 8 times a day will be transferred onto Libre. The reason for testing 8 times per day is that the cost of test strips for this frequency costs more than using Libre. I’ll have at...

    Yoyo

One of the things I learnt on a Daphne course was how to handle high blood glucose levels when ill. As you said, colds, flu etc send you bg sky high and your normal dose doesn’t work. One of the problems is that when you are ill and your bg goes high it can also lead to high ketones and it’s...

    Recommendations for cream for feet

I have used and still have a tube of the CCS foot cream but for me the best by a mile is Flexitol. I buy it in a tube, but I think it’s expensive. I would thoroughly recommend it if the skin on your heels is cracking due to hardening of the skin.
