lowest hba1c group has highest mortality?

Was reading a study today that said that the group who had the lowest hba1c (10% were below 6.7%) had the highest mortality second only to those who had an hba1c exceeding 9.9, and that from this data an hba1c around over 7% seems the best. For someone like me striving to get my hba1c under 6...

    Do you get forgetful

I read in Dr. Bernsteins book that diabetes can affect your memory, he recalls anectdotes of talking on the phone with patients and his wife (also a GP) asking if they were alzheimers patients. I know I definitely notice a difference in my mood and memory since getting my levels in check.

Test when you feel ill - gp horror story

Thanks for the support guys (and the random tangents ^_^)) Will be ordering the new strips in a week or two so I guess that'll be crunch time. The good news is Im actually working in a GP practice at the minute but didn't want to register there because of the general awkwardness it may bring...

Test when you feel ill - gp horror story

I've read about people's past horror stories and thought i'd been lucky so far, right up until I moved house and had to switch GP. Had my introductory appointment with my new GP, and when it came to setting up the prescription for test strips I noticed she'd only put 1 item on the repeat...

    Help with getting my Basal

Hi, thanks for the responses. Timo: I currently take around 3-4 units of novorapid per meal. Seems to cover the 1-2 hours readings ok, but perhaps the protein is causing a raise later? Problem is if I take any more novorapid I tend to go low after one hour. My other thought would be perhaps a...

    Help with getting my Basal

Hi all. I've been following low carb for a while now, it's helping but it seems I just can't get my basal right and was hoping someone could help. I originally started off with 26 levemir at night (around 10pm), but found this was leading me to rise around 5-6pm, so I decided to split my...

    2 doses of Levemir?

Why do most people seem to take more in the evening, wouldn't the rising dose be higher to counterattack Dawn Phenom?

    2 doses of Levemir?

I split my doses as I wasn't getting full coverage (always high by the time I got home from work) and to better control the dawn phenom. However I do seem to be taking a lot, 18 in the morning and 12 at night which is 30 units. Im fit enough and BMI is 20 or so, does this seem a lot to anyone...

    stress and Blood sugar levels

I've noticed anything that causes adrenalin release in my body causes my levels to go up, up to 5 points. When I was taking driving lessons this was particularly bad :) Just a bit of stress doesn't seem to affect me much, but if im so anxious or stressed out my heart is racing and im really...

    Diagnosis: how was it done?

Was on holiday with my folks in the south of ireland when I asked for like my 15th drink inside an hour my mum became suspicious, she was Type 1 too. So took me back to the apartment and took my bood (with a jagger no less, no pen for me!) , was off the chart. She phoned the doc and he told us...

    This is so depressing!

For the drinking sessions .... well, I asked a dietician about this and she told me that she doesn't recommend drinking sessions for anyone, diabetic or not. 4 hours and some beverages later she was throwing up behind the sofa .. ;) My point is drinking to excess (like most things) isn't good...

    This is so depressing!

Yes it is confusing and you will hear wildly differing opinions from Drs, dieticians and people alike. From what I've gathered on my own: What it boils down to is that fat isn't necessarily bad for you. It's fat combined with refined carbohydrates that lead to all the problems such as...

    This is so depressing!

Yes but it's not all bad. At least there ARE blood testers and multiple insulin injections. Could be much worse ;0 On the plus side since I actually started low carbing ive lost a stone and a half back to my Uni weight, NEVER binge any more (i used to be so bad with the crisps :D) and have...
