Is Metformin damaging your quality of life, or killing you?

Hi Alicia, I couldn't tolerate Metformin either. One a day was ok, but two, no way. I couldn't move too far from a loo. My nurse put me on one, Gliclazide a day and I git my life back. Had 2 hypo's but ate 5 glucose pills and was sorted 5-10 mins later. Good luck.

Type 2 How do I deal with the stress of being newly diagnosed?

Hi Allie, It's easy for me to say, but try to chill a little. I understand that you have lots going on and with this ontop, it must feel like you're being buried at times. I see lots of folk getting really seriously into blood tests(and yes, I understand they're a necessary evil) but try not to...

    Cholesterol and diabetes

Hi Sue, My cholesterol was far too high a while ago. Only discovered when I went to gp about skin coming off my tongue (lush, eh!). Apparently a symptom of hi chol, so was given 2 courses of statins, one after the other, but both brought my forearms out in odd spots, so now, as the license...

    New and worried

Hi Andy, and all fellow newly diagnosed members, I was "borderline" for about 8 years. I was moderately active with my work(molecatcher) but have bad knee arthritis (I'm 61 now,) from my previous life as a plumber. To be honest, I didn't take the warning very seriously until a routine HbA1c...

8 Months Since Type 2 Diagnosis

Well done Rachox. I too find these forums a great help, both medically and psychologically. I've just been diagnosed about a year but given testing equipment a month ago, so had a bit of a downer realising that it's "real" now and I've got to get my finger out, so to speak. Losing 5 stone too...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Perfect sense Karen! I've seen this, I think, advertised on tv a while ago. Got to be less painful than finger pricking! You said the sensors are 50 each, is this £50 each? Sounds expensive. Im self employed but have only made about £400 in the past month so £50 is a large chunk. From what I...

    Low carb

Morning and Merry Christmas to all! I was diagnosed as type 2 about 6-8 months ago and was scared by the prospect. I was prescribed Metformin, 1/day which was ok. Not doing as my nurse hoped it would, she increased my dose to 2/day. This caused my bowels to take on a life of their own!! I work...
