HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

well I read the leaflet and then went on line and it turns out i can't take now anyway as there is a dangerous interaction with Topamax which I take for migraine. My GP never looked at that either. Mix those two and lactic acidosis is a big danger. I wonder what the GP does tbh Using metFORMIN...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

A new Question. I opened the metformin 500mg box and read the leaflet. It says clearly 'don't use this medication if you are on a VLCD or diet below 1000 calories a day' so I am on 800 calories a day and I am now worried to take the medication. Doctor never said anything and I have told him...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

I chose HbA1c of 43 as a target to get me under the '48' they say is diabetes. I just don't want to be on meds if I can do remission by losing enough weight to get under my personal fat threshold for diabetes. If a 6.1kg loss gets me to 49, a 15 kg loss must get me below 'diabetic' on their...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

Hiya. I do hope so. I am feeling a bit down after the doctor told me this evening that 'there was no such thing as remission just control'. But I disagree with him. Professor Taylor says you can reverse it and hold that if you keep the weight off and eat low carb. I will tentatively try the...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

My cousin is a GP and he said almost exactly what you said. he is shocked by my GP's odd attitude to patient care (he's angry about my text message 'diagnosis' and the drug prescription was passed to me in an offhand way with no advice and no message about side effects!) and also that my GP is...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

so to answer you - after amonth of dieting my HbA1C is now 49 from my original 55. after a month. But they are still going to stick me on metformin and ignore my weight loss and the stats........i'm very frustrted with the GP who seems not to support my fight for remission.

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

Hey all. So after a month of dieting, my HbA1C has gone from 55 to 49! But the doctor now wants to put me on Metformin. I'd rather wait another month or two, as I have lost 6kg, a little more than 5% of body weight, and am feeling much better. I will take the stuff if he insists. Any views ? I...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

Hello, I did low carb in 2015 for about a year and it was amazing. I just fell out of doing it because I live with a plump Geordie who cooks lots of pasta. I will draw a line under that from now on - Konjak pasta only. I actually prefer low carb, it makes me feel better. I have lots of recipes...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

Hello! thanks for tips. when I get rid of 10-15kg (christmas?) I am going to reintroduce a low GI regime. I have clearly been poisoning myself with beige food, and too large portions for a while. I really so very much appreicate the wisdom on here as getting 000000 from the GP weight update...

BMI is 34 and I'm nearly 100kg (omg) so need to lose quite a bit. I'm using shakes and eating three portions of veg a day as advised. If I feel wobbly I have a few slices of ham or few spoons of a full fat greek yoghurt. drinking more water and banned caffeine. Loss in week 1 is 1.8kg. I told...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

Unfortunately I am BMI 34 so i am working on the premise that I am too fat and am going to change that with the Newcastle Uni diet and a change ijn lifestyle..... but you make some really good points on metabolic rate and changing what you eat.

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

Thank you. Knowledge levels are growing but I was totally in the dark on this really - so very helpful. I am going to start walking and keep on this diet. My issue is a second problem with tachycardia - i need to find out why i am getting it (got it before the diet) and get it sorted. It means i...
