    Drinks.

One sachet of instant coffee ( 3 in 1 - mix of coffee, creamer and with "50% less sugar" = 2.4gm sugar) seems to have increased my CGM reading from 100 (5.55. mmol) to a peak of 174 (9.7) on my Abbott CGM within 40 mins. I am surprised by this huge spike - I was expecting around 20-30 points at...

    Weight Loss -

I am a T2. I lost 5kg by low carbing but for the last month have not lost any weight at all. Saw the doctor yesterday and he wants me to go from 77kg to 66kg at the rate of 1kg per week. He says I should cut 500 calories and exercise 500 calories worth every day. I have never really exercised...

    How do I know?

Thanks for your replies. I am recently on Metformin (500mg twice a day) and it does reduce it a bit I think - I can't tell whether its my low carbing or the pills. I would have thought the would test to confirm whether its T1 OR T2 rather than assume its T2 because T1 mainly gets young people...

    How do I know?

How do I know whether my body is not producing enough insulin or it is but not using it properly? Is there a simple test? My doctor seems to have assumed that it is type 2. I appreciate that the vast majority is type 2.

    Why isnt it going down!

OK - Sorry should have given that. I had two chapati (Indian bread made with a mix of wheat, chickpea flour and spinach - to reduce GI), A bowl of plain low fat yogurt and okra. At 3AM the blood sugar did go down to 8.3. However fasting at 10.5am was 10.0. So sounds as if the liver is throwing...

    Why isnt it going down!

I am *really* confused by my glucose readings (One Touch Ultra 2). I am recently diagnosed and have found this forum to be a God send. Had one Metformin 500G as I have just started on them. I had a modest DINNER at 18:30. My readings were as follows: pre meal 10.7 AT 18:30 19:51 12.4 21:32...

    Q re Testing

Hi there I am new to diabetes and testing. From reading it appears that the glucose reading two hours after eating should be lower than 1 hour after eating - is this correct? Should i be measuring time from when I start eating or when I finish. In the tests so far I have started timing when I...

    GI Index

Is the GI Index calculated by testing on healthy people or on people with diabetes? It seems o me that the increase in blood sugar for healthy people is likely to be less than those with diabetes. If this is correct, is here a GI Index fro perople with Type 2. I know its relative to glucose or...

    Please Help a Newbie

Well I got a meter. One touch Ultra2. My readings are shocking. PRE dinner 10.2 AT 9PM. 1 HR after 17.3 and 2 hrs after a whopping 19.8. Edit - the following moning fasting at 8am is 12.8 It seems my starting level is higher than the level should be AFTER the meal. and my fasting is TWICE what...

    Please Help a Newbie

Thanks Dobbs. That's very clear and helpful. I'll get myself a meter and get on with the testing. Hopefully I will still have some of my favourite foods left to enjoy!

    Please Help a Newbie

Thanks Dobbs. I found that the doctor was really too busy to explain anything properly and made no mention of testing. The first thing I need to understand is the testing business. Say, I start in the morning (if that is the best time) when and how often should i test? should i repeat the tests...
