    Metfiormin reluctant

Hi Don - it’s a personal choice. I’ve been on Metformin and on my 3rd week. Already I’ve seen my blood glucose and HbA1c drop dramatically which is good. It’s means I’m getting control. There are side effects - diarrhoea being the most common and the heightened risk of lactic acidosis but these...

What Powers does the Diabetic Nurse Have?

Hi jjraak :) To clarify …. my GP referred me to the DN specialist from a hospital team. My GP manages my meds but collaborates with the DN who fine tunes my treatment regime, so they communicate with each other which means I get the best of both. It means more frequent appointments with each -...

What Powers does the Diabetic Nurse Have?

Agree totally. But it does reduce LDL cholesterol significantly which is why I’m taking it ;)

    HBA1C Good Cholesterol Bad

You could research the results yourself, just Google the results. E.G Your LDL cholesterol is too high - normal range is 5 to 6.4. Then, after researching your results, take a view and ask yourself if you should go on statins

What Powers does the Diabetic Nurse Have?

Personally I’ve found that my Specialist Diabetic Nurse knowledge is invaluable. Not only is her understanding of meds and their impact wide ranging but even interpreting such things as a home monitoring diary record very insightful. For other reasons, I’m currently on a very aggressive program...

    Insulin / silly MP

Carolyn Harris MP - Welsh Labour, former barmaid & dinner lady, known to make homophonic remarks, once involved in an assault case in which she was the assailant, invited a convicted criminal to speak at a parliamentary event who was eventually convicted of theft of donations to a cancer...

Oh the types they are a changing

Thx. And it certainly is “rubbish” Fenn ! Getting the diagnosis was a protracted effort between my Cardiac team and Diabetes team and Endo team but all are unequivocally certain that a virus caused my “unclassified diabetes”. I’m fortunate that I get good care and am regularly monitored but as...

Oh the types they are a changing

Absolutely viral infections attack the pancreas - and I’m a case in point. I was exposed to ‘Chlamydia Pneumoniae’ from a bacterial infected hotel room air conditioning system. As a consequence I suffered pneumonia, heart failure and damage to my pancreas. I’m now diagnosed as ‘unclassified...

    Type 2 Liquid Metformin

I had a consultation this morning and was informed that the liquid form had been pulled because of suspect cancer inducing risk ! The tablet form is under review in the U.K.

    Early possible T1 diagnos

Deffo agree with you to explore other avenues and challenge the endo’s assumptions. You’ve come to the right place to find alternative diagnosis and people’s experience. And I agree with you about MRI’s and 3 year olds - they wriggle lol ! Lots of research helps and monitoring for now is the way...

    Early possible T1 diagnos

Very interesting post and I have complete empathy - I found myself in a similar situation and with no classic diabetic symptoms. And I’ve just been told that I am neither T1, T2 or have LADA. Yet my BG can fluctuate from 7.1 to 29 in a day ! After lots of tests including a pancreatic MRI it was...

    Dry blistered skin on foot

Have you tried consulting a Podiatrist or Chiropodist ? Some diabetic clinics offer this as an additional service.

    Pancreas has “shrunk” !

Thx Peter & Zoe - much appreciated. My Specialist Diabetes Nurse said it was a common factor but wasn’t fully understood. She also said that it doesn’t alter any treatment plan when administering insulin for either T1 or T2. Not everyone gets a pancreatic MRI when diagnosed which I think is a pity.

    Pancreas has “shrunk” !

I recently had a pancreatic MRI. The good news is that I don’t have pancreatic cancer, gallstones or blocked bile ducts. But what the MRI did show was that my pancreas has “shrunk” which might explain why I’m producing less insulin and also enough enzymes to get the full benefit of any food I...

    Prediabetes caused by statins

Hi MT10 - noting that you have had a cardiac event, are you on beta blockers ? These can significantly increase BS levels. Also re Statins, it’s well documented that they can also increase BS levels. My own experience following heart failure followed by heart ablation then medicated with beta...
