Spinal problem in 1990 left legs weak and balance poor. Need regular exercise (walks) to stay on top of it.
Diagnosed diabetic type 2 autumn 2012 whilst in an induced coma (double pneumonia). Under control (touch wood).
Jan 2014 diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver - "But I don't drink!" answer "Many things can give you cirrhosis, including some prescription drugs!". Under control - blood results maintained at normal (touch wood).
Jan 2015 wife passed away, just 2 months short of our 47 anniversary - peritonitus. She had beaten lung cancer between 2004 - 2008.
March 2015 I developed small but significant lump under the right side of my jaw. "I know what that is!" - started smoking again after more than 10 years! Between then and the beginning of December 2015 every test (MRI, ultrasounds, guided biopsies, blood tests) and examination concluded it was benign. But at the end of that period they wanted to see me every three months. So I had it out. Looked like Frankenstein's monster when they let me out after the op. A huge gash complete with staples. If that's keyhole surgery (no-one said it was, I assumed) then they must have some very big locks in hospitals.
The biopsy of the lump indicated it was cancerous - lymphoma, a bad, aggressive strain (which is quite common). One week towards the middle of January 2016 saw a PECT scan (don't have one - radioactive glucose = radioactive drains , bone marrow samples (or one of those) and an echocardiograph (never had a lady radiographer that close) in three consecutive days. End of Jan, results? No indication of lymphoma anywhere in my system. Better born lucky than rich! (I would have preferred both
But my consultant stressed that their tests are not yet down to cellular level, (the tests may infer the prescence of the cancer cells rather than actually see them - my summation) so Feb - Mar 2016 is going in just half a course of chemo. First dose started 11 Feb 2016, then another cycle every three weeks - ONLY TWO TO GO!
After chemo they wanted to do radio therapy - 15 consecutive days strapped down to a carbon fibre table - 15 days of parking nightmares at the City hospital Nottingham. Next news 17 August.
So I think the radio-therapy has converted me to DAB radio. Trouble is I can only get one programme. This one...
Don't knock our NHS (hospitals anyway) they are sacred!
