    I have a boil.

In august I had a perinatal abscess which after a week of putting up with it. I ended up in A and E and has surgery it have it drained. I have quite a high pain threshold and this was unbearable, ending with me fainting on the loo! Afterwards the hole had to be dressed everyday by a nurse to...

Did any of your parents have T2 & how did/do they fare ?

Both of my grandfathers were T2. My dad was T2 and 3/6 of his siblings are also T2. I don’t know much about my grandfathers as they both died when I was quite young. My father was diagnosed at 30, on insulin by 34 and took exceptionally bad care of himself. His sugars ran routinely at 22/24...

For those of you in remission

Similarly to @Andydragon my palette hasn’t really changed. I try not to have them as a treat but occasionally, once every 2-3 months, when the restaurant choice is out of our hands or something similar, I will a piece of bread with my pate or one or two (actually one or two!) chips with my...

What is your acceptable spike limit?

Ideally below 7 as a type 2, diet controlled person. Since starting low carb and reverting my numbers to non diabetic levels my BG levels seem to run low. This week I’ve been between 3.4 and 3.9 almost all week. Lucozade only spiked me to high 5’s and then dropped almost as quickly again. So I...

Thanks, sometimes all you need is a little bit of reassurance!

My 2 reasons for asking were that the Dr has given me very tight numbers to stick to before conception of FBG below 5.5 and nothing above 7 at all if possible. Secondly, for me personally that’s quite a high number. I generally never see anything above a 6/6.5 unless carbs have been eaten.

Thank you! Still waiting on a pre-conception clinic appointment but hopefully get one within the next few weeks. Thanks for all the advice - it’s never happened before so just wanted to double check!

A bit of a more delicate question. I woke up with a FBG of 5.1, almost straight after….my alarm warned me I had climbed to 7.5 and climbing. It did come back down fairly quickly. Now I know this isn’t a huge rise but we are trying for a baby and obviously want to keep sugars as low as...

    Testing Foods

I had another little bit of a rise after I posted so at the 2 hour mark it was 6.2. And the one hour mark was around 5.4. I’m overall happy with that if it’s for a treat very occasionally. My BMI is about 28/29, not entirely sure as can fluctuate a little throughout the month. was 15 stone 8...

    Testing Foods

Diagnosed formally in January this year with HBA1c of 88 at age of 33. Since then I’ve followed essentially a Keto diet (with maybe one day every two months having some form of treat. Nothing huge but maybe a few chips with a meal out or something similar.) April had pushed HBA1c down to 36...

    Testing Foods

Yep I was pretty low beforehand. My fasting sugars these days seem to sit between 3-4.5 ish, I seem to have had another spike 3 hours post meal, slightly higher than I’d like but it’s came down again now. Not that I plan on making a habit of it but a tiny bit of reassurance is nice!

    Testing Foods

Out for a meal this evening and coincided with my new Libre coming this morning. Took the opportunity to test a few foods - had steak spring rolls to start made from pastry and shared a portion of onion rings with my main. Raise of 2 and peaked at 5.6, pretty pleased with that. Not something...

Type 2s What motivates you to control by diet?

Watching my father lose toe after toe, eventually both of his legs, his eyesight and a kidney and eventually passing at the age of 55. Being diagnosed at 33 and knowing if I don’t follow the diet I would likely end up like him. Although I enjoy eating this way, I do fear that the restrictive...

Thank you so much, that’s such a kind thing to say. I’m going to make more time to dip in and out as it’s so handy for recipes and like to see how everyone is doing!

    One year on

Haven’t been able to post regularly here due to work, missing the low carb what we had today thread terribly! However got blood test results back today - last August Hbc was 88. Today it is now 32! Absolutely delighted, and just wanted to thank all on here for the low carb advice and recipes.
