Public Health England releases free app to help parents monitor sugar in products

Had none of this cobblers when I was a kid, just 3 square meals a day and water or tea without sugar to drink. If you didn't like it, you went without and it didn't take some silly luvvies to point out the obvious. Seems people these days are devoted of any common sense.

ADA urges clinicians not to use the word diabetic to describe people with diabetes, among...

I must be MLC. Probably because I'm gay, home, where or whatever else one wishes to use to describe me. I use all of these terms to describe myself and care not I'd others do too. If people spent as much time worrying about real issues as they do being PC, we'd all be a lot better off. These...

Admitted to hospital they are unsure if type 1/2

I've not had any side effects at all, however, neither have any of the pills worked, I still have levels of 15 and above on a daily basis even with strict diet control. Maybe one of the scientists might know why...

    Type 2 metformin

Orlando, have a look at diabetesforecast.org There is a table showing how long the various drugs take to reach maximum efficacy. My doctor is one of those who think it should be in the order of months even with strict diet control. Seems odd that one of these drugs can seemingly make you go...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Is most frustrating, the medication seems to have little effect and the doctor thinks it needs a month to take effect whereas, reading an American diabetes website, it is suggested that all the medications should reach maximum efficacy within 10 days

    What Meter to go for?

Join the club Becca, I was a right woos about needles and things, I was so up tight about them that I put up with all the symptoms of thirst and affected eyesight for weeks because I was afraid of the blood test and the thought of daily reading and possibly injections. Take it from me, the...

How long does it take to get blood sugars down by change in diet?

Jac, count yourself lucky, I ordered some new glasses just before I was diagnosed and guess what? They were no good after medication started! €500 of lenses which are no good and have had to be remade to a new prescription.

    Diabetics Tester

Same here, free meter from the doctor, need a mortgage to buy strips. SD Codefree is a far more economical option. There is a 20% tolerance that the manufacturer has to achieve so no matter which one you buy, the best you can hope for is to monitor trends, you'll never get a reading that could...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

From what I read on an American diabetes website, Metformin reached maximum efficacy within 2 weeks and the gliclazide starts working from the first dose, also reaching maximum efficacy within 10 to 14 days. I'm not optimistic therefore that these medications are going to resolve my levels...
