Cramp - anyone else get it?

BaliRob...the doctor who prescribed it for that purpose and for such a long duration should be struck off. Its side effects have been known for 30 or more years. I'm sorry to hear about your kidney trouble, but at least now you can move forward with treatment. Blondage...I think ou have put your...

    Stopping Smoking

I've quit twice. Once cold turkey, stopped for 15 years. Second time using e-cig same as tree-peony with a gradual reduction. Now I sometimes 'vape' (sp?), using a non-nicotine version. ...I think it's harmlessui Good luck with it.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn 5.6 for me. Had breakfast but forgot to eat lunch, now 4.9 at 7.00pm. These numbers are a mystery to me.

    Question re cholesterol target

Thanks both. I am commuting between australia and thailand and this test was done in Bangkok. I will have the full set of tests to get a clearer picture of my status. 70mg/dl (1.8102 mmol) seems distant..at least for now! cheers paul

    metformin dose

Anyone who has quit smoking understands how hard it is. Nicotine is more addictive than heroin. Almost all ex-smokers gain some weight as they eat more in snacks to substitute. Whatever you do, don't go back on the fags. The weight and overeating (or poor food choices) can be overcome. As a...

    Ramipril & raised glucose levels

As I understand it, some Beta Blockers can elevate BG. I take Metoprolol ( toprol) and when by BP need to be reduced quite quickly the GP did not want to increase the dose for that reason. He added another drug instead ( plendil, felodur, felopidipine in different countries). It did the trick...

    Question re cholesterol target

I'm a bit confused about cholesterol levels and what the best target range is. My doctor has always said mine is fine. But when I told him to foxtrot oscar ( a phrase i noticed on another post..took me a minute to work it out) after missing my DB, and changed to another doc I am taking more of...

    Ramipril & raised glucose levels

Jude I take Ramipril (10mg) without any obvious BG issues ( but then again I was taking for years before diagnosis so, as you say, it's hard to know). I also take a number of drugs for hypertension. My GP couldn't work out why my BP kept increasing. At the time of Dx it was 195/120. It's now...

    statins help

As others have said, individual circumstances and conditions vary. Speaking for myself, I have been taking Pravastin for 14 years with no ill-effect and good cholesterol control. The evidence seems to very strong that the statins do offer significant protection for those at high risk of major...

    This Carb Thingy

Yes, I have to agree. It appears to be working for me. No bread, rice , pasta, starchy vegetables and very little milk for over a month. I do not spike with some fruits but do with others. With Metformin 2x500 my FBG and PPG have come down a lot. It still feels a bit odd to be eating more fat...

    Monitor Refusal Reason!!!

It would be interesting to see a survey/study of diabetic medicos to discover their testing regimes. I would bet anything that close to 100% would test.

    Weight

I think it varies with the individual but many people report weight loss when taking metformin and adopting low/moderate carbs. I take the same dose as you and have lost 5.5 kg ( about 12lbs) in 32 days. Keep at it and I suspect you will see loss....mine started to come off in week 2. Gone from...

Blood glucose >>> less than two hours after a meal

Rob, many of the local fruits should not cause too much of a spike ( eaten in moderation). I don't get spikes from papaya, dragonfruit, mangosteen, rambutan ( none of which are strongly flavoured). Maybe try some of them and test your reaction. Banana...no. cheers
