    Wetherspoons Pubs.

Funnily enough I have just come from one of their establishments. I asked for salad and not chips with my lunch - no problems at all, the staff were very accommodating

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

Re: Success stories A few months ago I posted about a trip to podiatrist where he lambasted me for being on a low carb diet. When I last saw him I was crippled with neuropathy and could hardly walk. He was advocating pregabalin to ease the pain. Today I walked in, no pain, full feeling in both...

Swine flu, are we at greater risk?.

As a 62 year old who has just spent 5 days in bed and is currently struggling with spinning head and trying to keep his eyes open, I would suggest they are incorrect!

    Tamiflu and diabetes

Have been in bed with swine flu since Tuesday. This is my first (part) day up. As a diabetic my GP did not give me tamiflu just kept me on codine and imodium to ease the inevitable 'runs'. BG levels have been raised all week (averaging high nines) and I stopped taking metformin as bowel was...

    Is it possible

Both my DN and Asthma nurses tell me my illnesses are aggrevated by the stress of my function as a carer. My BS and blood pressure are considerably lower when my charge is away in respite care.

    Kidney test results

Sorry - misread original post  I have reduced kidney function - down to about 80% of normal so I am told, and my low carb diet has not led to any further degradation. My GP has not expressed any concern at my change of diet, she has been fully supportive.

    Kidney test results

I had severe neuropathic pain in my shins and the top of my feet. The bottoms of my feet were 'dead' with no feeling at all. Podiatrist was suggesting suitable pain relief medication for me and issuing dire warnings about probable future amputations. Found this forum, changed my diet to very...

    Kidney test results

I am the opposite. Since starting low carb all my blood tests have come back in the non diabetic range. My GP and DN strongly support the low carb approach. Bronte - those are very low doses of ramipril. Watch out for a cough when taking it though - it is a known side effect. I changed to...

    I upset somebody

Possibly she would have a different opinion if she was diabetic herself, trying to improve her quality and quantity of life. Self preservation is a great incentive.

    Annoyed with myself

Over the years I have torn most of the skin on my hands and made them bleed in the heat of battle repairing various motor vehicles,(have the scars to prove it) but when my meter arrived i found I just couldn't push the button to self inflict an injury. I had the thing for 2 weeks before building...

Hi a question about low carb...

Hi Sandy - a fellow diabetic asthmatic! I have to use salbutamol before going in the water and then again as soon as I come out. I think it must be the chlorine in the atmosphere in the pools that trigger asthma attacks. It has taken them 14 months to sort of stabilise my asthma generally...
