Lifestyle Testing Strips - Cashing In?

Yes, I've tried that - they all come out at once and separating them when they're 'stuck' together is tricky without them falling all over the place... and I never know how much exposure to the outside air is too much exposure. It's not a major problem though - I have bigger things to worry...

Lifestyle Testing Strips - Cashing In?

I noticed the change recently.... I find it near impossible to get the first 10-20 strips out of the pot because there's now so many in there and my not-so-dainty fingers don't fit inside. o_O

any type 1's on metformin, glyclazide or victoza?

I will send you a private message about it if you like - I can't do it right now but didn't want you to think I was ignoring you!

    Where you from?

No, I'm actually under Poole's Diabetes Clinic rather than Bournemouth because of my postcode. Sometimes I wish it was Bournemouth because of the super-specialist/research team but I have no complaints about Poole!

    Changing Ratios

I change the carb value too. I never really understood why it's taught the other way around. It doesn't seem to make any sense to me when the insulin can only be given in fixed units. But how often is common sense used when forming guidelines about healthcare?!?

any type 1's on metformin, glyclazide or victoza?

I'm type 1 on slow-release metformin (1000mg) and victoza (1.2mg) I've been on the metformin for years but I was recently the first type 1 that my consultant tried with Victoza. Good results so far.

    Famous type 1 diabetics!

I thought Tom Hanks was type 2 as well . . . but apart from Steve Redgrave, these were all unknown to me!

    Insulin On Board (IOB)

Yup, same for me - I'm currently going through the arduous process of monitoring/changing my bolus ratios throughout the day.

What are your resting heart rates?

Mine's usually somewhere around 85 - 90. It's always been on the higher side but no medical professional has ever said anything about it so I'm presuming it's ok!

    Reflexology with diabetes!!

When I had reflexology a few years back it would occasionally lower my blood sugar a bit - I think it depended on which areas had been manipulated though. Just be aware that it might happen and prepare accordingly!

    Diagnose stories and d days

I was actually diagnosed on D-Day, so it's known as Diabetic Day in our house. I was 11, had been getting really tired, extremely thirsty, strange smelling breath, chest infection. One weekend I couldn't get out of bed because I was so exhausted and the on-call GP diagnosed...

    HAIR LOSS

I'm presuming from your username that you're female..... There is some link between type2 diabetes and a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome - PCOS - (both relate to insulin resistance). One of the symptoms of PCOS is hair loss - it's happened to me, started when I was about 15 and I...

    Marks on my fingers!

When I was diagnosed 20+ years ago I was told that you shouldn't really use the main pad of the fingertip as you risk losing sensitivity. Like donnellysdogs said, it's better to use the side of your fingertip and gently 'milk' the drop of blood out (rather than squeezing hard). I've spent the...

    Insulin dose

Everyone is different. I met a T1 recently who was on about 15u of long-acting insulin a day and about a max of 15-20u of fast-acting insulin. Compare that to me on 45u of long-acting insulin (and I used to be on 80+ units until recently!). If you have insulin resistance then you will require...
