My first HbA1c result and new meter

I don't think the colour or pigmentation is a factor in skin thickness. Anatomic location, age and gender play a part but light or dark shouldn't make a difference.

Re: metformin side effects I also had blinding headached with metformin. Doc switched me to the SR version and the headache went away. Unfortunately I also had a rash with both versions and appear to be allergic to it. Now on Actos but only been taking it for 6 weeks or so. Haven't seen any...

    Pioglitazone

Your post reminds me of my GP sugesting I was looking for a magic wand! Despite overhauling my diet, being very careful about what I eat, steadily losing weight and swimming every other day my BG levels just don't seem to be coming down. I was on Metformin briefly but developed an allergy...

    Pioglitazone

Hi, Pleased to report no side effects so far but having taken it for almost 2 weeks I haven't noticed any reduction in my BG levels. Can anyone say how long it has taken them to see a difference? Thanks

    A question

Hi, There's no entitlement in law for paid time off for medical appointments. However, if your contract of employment (or staff handbook that contains any policies surrounding this that betters the basic legal position) allows for paid time off then your would have an entitlement. The only...

    pi**ed off

Hi Janieb I also had blinding headaches on metformin. Soon as I stopped it they went away. Best see your GP and discuss alternatives. The SR version didn't give ne a headache. Unforunately both versions brought me out in a rash so I can't take it at all.

    Glucophage sr dosage

Hi, The composition on the side of the glucophage sr 500mg packet that I have says "Each prolonged release tablet contains metformin hydrochloride 500mg equivalent to 390mg metformin". Perhaps that's why your doseage has been inceased since it looks like the SR contains less metformin than the...

    Pioglitazone

Hi, I've posted a few times recently about problems I was having with metformin. I had a range of symptoms with it - mostly well documented side effects and a debilitating stonking headache. However I also had a rash that worried both me and my GP who thought I may have an allergy to it. I...

    airport

Hi, I travel by plane regularly with work - twice this week. My BG meter is always in my hand luggage and I have never been asked about it. I suspect airport security must see them dozens of times a day and recognise them in the scanner. It shouldn't be a problem.

    Hello everyone! A quick question

Hi there, Muscle pain and weakness are listed as possible side effects of metformin. I've attached the link from another part of the forum viewtopic.php?f=26&t=12124 Might be worth keeping an eye to see if it gets worse and contact your GP if it does.
