    Adventures in Sourdough

I like graphs as well and don't have any problem with sharing them My suggestion of more butter (can you ever have too much butter?) is still applicable though despite my type (I can cite numerous studies)

What will happen is a type 1 child eats no carbs at all?

I think this is the misconception and I'm talking simply here intentionally. Glucogenolysis and gluconeogenesis will not be regulated because insulin plays a role. Without insulin glycogenolysis will continue unabated and the liver will be dumping glucose into the bloodstream without abandon (or...

I had my first real emergency today

Now that you've got me thinking about it a double dose theory is not unreasonable because I broke my normal routine. I normally bolus before eating, last night I did it after. That, thinking about it now, increased my chance of error

I had my first real emergency today

I'm going to have to try arms, buttocks etc I think. I did use my arm once based on a suggestion on here (maybe from you!) when I first switched to dexcom. I have a 1 hour appointment on Wednesday with the endo Yes, there is a chance I double dosed. I can't rule that out because I've stopped...

I had my first real emergency today

Yes I normally eat lowish carb but considering I'd been so low all day I decided to eat fried rice, 2 ice creams, a lot of crisps, and I'd had a couple of orange juices as well. I was a bit uncertain but triple-checked the numbers in cronometer and I'd eaten about 120g (not 100) of carbs so...

What will happen is a type 1 child eats no carbs at all?

No, that's not how it works. Insulin has an inhibitory effect on those as well as regulating cell (brain, adipose tissue etc etc etc) uptake of glucose. Circulatory blood glucose levels will not be under control because of the feedback loops that I alluded to earlier. Please can you answer...

Let's see what Dr Google says (without insulin, at this point carb intake will make no acceptable difference). You're looking at 1-3 days at best. 2 weeks if you're "lucky" (and I put lucky in quotes because that's not how I'd like to die)

I had my first real emergency today

I should add that I have extensive scarring on my stomach from 2 years of clexane injections. I don't know if this is affecting things, but probably

I had my first real emergency today

I didn't see those questions! Sorry a) Before lantus BG was about 5 mmol/L. I'm 6.4 right now (so I dropped to below 1, looking at my graph in less than an hour!) b) Yes I had active novorapid on board (10 units), within 2 hours of my lantus (my ratio of novorapid for dinner is 1:10. I normally...

Insulin does more than one thing. It's a complicated process but it works in tandem with the hormone glucagon. They both work an intricate dance that we don't, yet, fully understand. I don't think you can just cut out one without causing some pretty serious (like death, that's kinda serious)...

I might hit 15 by the looks of that slope :D I hope I do (I know that's awfully high for some people but atm it's better for me to be 15)

I had my first real emergency today

Is this a good idea? Should I get my BG up to above 5 or something before eating the crisps? I'm not sure if the OJ will work after eating all of these. The crisps don't work fast but they work for a long time. I'm going to eat the whole bag

    No, it's 3.6 on CGM
