Diabetic since 1961 at age of 8. Everything normal at school and went dancing (ballet & modern dance) in the evenings--loved it--did competitive dance festivals, shows & joined an amateur theatre company. In last year at school, at 15, I auditioned for a London ballet school and was accepted. At 16 I went up to London and began my training. Did pantos & summer shows in holidays and when I left, aged 19, I joined the Italian Operetta Company based in Milan. After 2 years I was offered a contract for a 3rd year but when I went home for a break I decided to get married instead!! Did an office job for a couple of years but taught dance at the weekends. I then auditioned for a job as a dancer close to home and was successful so worked with lots of well known stars. When the contract finished I went into advertising and stayed there for 10 years after which I had a baby closely followed by another! When both were at secondary school I applied to do a dance degree after which I did a post graduate teaching course at the Royal Academy of Dance in London--I have been teaching now for 12 years. For the past 3 years, in the school holidays I have also organised & delivered youth activities on board the Queen Mary 2, Oceana & Britannia cruise ships. Now looking forward to retirement in 2 1/2 years!!!!!!! No diabetes complications.
