Which kinds of exercise raise / lower blood sugar?

My experience is that when playing squash, I need an initial boost in carbs to get ke through the first 10 minute drop in BG, but then the intensity causes a spike in BG so I then have to give myself a small insulin boost half way through the match. All down to trial and error and there is no...

    Car hypo treatment

I generally buy multi-packs of fruit pastilles. Firstly, they act pretty quickly, quicker than a chocolate bar. Secondly often 3 or 4 are enough so its easier to judge a dose than a chocolate bar where you end up eating it all! Thirdly, they don't melt, and lastly I'm not a massive fan of them...

Why is it taking my glucose so long to go down?

You do have to get used to different foods/meals absorbing at different rates. Imagine at the extremes, you eat 5 tsp of sugar (massively quick spike, approx 25g) versus a big Sunday roast plate but with mainly veg - still 25g of carbs your body will take a long time to absorb them in amongst...

T1 Pumper with unstoppable spikes in BG

Juicyj what you call "a wall of insulin resistance" is the perfect description for it. It goes on and on, but also when I'm continuing to eat/drink, even though what would normally be small quantities - so not exactly helping myself!! I like the tip of smaller doses, and maybe just have zero...

T1 Pumper with unstoppable spikes in BG

Also Juicyj and Marie 2, I did used to get air gaps in my tube which did cause this, but now I'm on the sealed insulin cartridges so wouldn't have thought there would be any air gaps?

T1 Pumper with unstoppable spikes in BG

Thanks all for your replies. This happens maybe once a month, usually if I've under-bolused so goes up to say 12, but then it just keeps on going rather than coming back down like it normally would with a corrective bolus. The tunnelling sounds interesting though, because often it happens when...

T1 Pumper with unstoppable spikes in BG

Hi - I'm looking for advice on how to deal with this? I have been on my pump for 18 years, T1 for 45 years, well controlled and have a continuous glucose monitor which is a great help. My issue is that occasionally my BG goes up on a steep trajectory, and no matter what I do (extra bolus of...

    Type 1 & vision advice

Hi Autumn, I'm 50 and have had T1 since I was 5. For the first 25 years it was very hard to control my BG (no pumps, etc), but was then put on the pump 18 years ago which has changed my life and I can pretty much do whatever I want now. The 25 years of poor control meant that I needed...

Hi Shellyj - how are you getting on with the pump? I went onto a pump in 2002, and read "Pumping Insulin" by John Walsh, it was very simple to understand how to set up basal and bolus levels so really helped me. I read the 2000 version, but there's a newer one 2016 by him.

Hi sleepster - the Libra is great. Are you on a pump too? One tip is the Libre results are around 10 mins behind a BG reading because its not testing blood, its fluid. So on critical tests like a hypo you either do a BG too, or be patient when you eat to treat the hypo, as the Libra may read BG...
