    Background retinopathy.

Background retinopathy is very common in diabetics, so long as it doesn't progress (by keeping your diabetes under control), it is ok. Basically they check that the leaks you have this time heal. I had it for years and years. Then once I had the pump it has disappeared, and an eye consultant...

    Libre now on the NHS

Why did your consultant request it in June when it wasn't NICE approved?

    Living abroad with diabetes

Wouldn't that be fraud? If you are not a UK resident (even if you are a citizen) I think claiming NHS supplies would be illegal. It's not a bottomless money pit.

    Drops for retinal photography

I request not to have the drops as they are too strong for me. My eyes stay dilated for 48 hours and I have had migraines from them. The photographer lets me sit in the dark and my pupils grow as big as they would with the drops. Apparently it's something to do with having blue eyes. My...

Induction or c section how did you choose?

If you are induced you will want an epidural. The problem with early induction is that the baby may not have its head engaged and the labour can go off course.

Induction or c section how did you choose?

You get a choice? I was induced 17 years ago, after 40 hours I had an emergency c-section. Afterwards my clinic told me they did an audit and of the induced mothers (all of us) 75% had a c-section. I thought they should have just done the section in the first place. However, when I finally...

    diabetic diarrhoea

Hi Katrina Whilst I realise you probably do have this horrible complication of diabetes, have you cut out onions, spring onions, leeks, shallots and basically all of the onion family? My sister has a violently horrible intolerance of all things onion and has been severely ill in the past from...

    FreeStyle Libre

I trialled it nearly 2 years ago (they are trying to convince NICE that they are worth the money). I'm a lot older than you and my mother financed my first year of this, and this year I am asking people not to waste money on xmas presents for me, I'd rather have the money to go towards this. I...

    Steroid injection to shoulder

Hi Engineer 88 I had this for "shoulder impingement syndrome", and it immediately FROZE my shoulder. The steroid affected my bg for a few days. But the Frozen Shoulder is still with me despite Hydrodilatation (google it!) including MORE steroid, and a general anaesthetic with manipulation...

Fear of losing licence after specsaver visit

That's not how you put it originally. "the eyesight prescription the topmost limit is 6/12 correction if any more than that it's no licence." implies that the prescription correction should not be more than 6/12. What you meant was you could have a discrepancy on your prescription of up to...

Fear of losing licence after specsaver visit

I don't understand what 6/12 means. Is this a measure of shortsightedness or longsightedness that we don't use in the UK, or is it the measure of field of vision? I believe if your prescription corrects your long/shortsightedness you can drive. I am very shortsighted but I am allowed to drive...

What test was used for your diagnosis?

My diagnosis was in 1983. As the result of a urine dip, I was called into the GP's for a finger prick and a test on a good old fashioned BM stick. And was admitted to the children's ward that afternoon. I don't think we had routine HbA tests in those days.

    Retinopathy appts

I think there are different strength drops but they only have the one strength when they visit my doctors surgery. It does make me long sighted but I also find I am VERY sensitive to light for a couple of days. It's not worth the headache.
