    Online academic course ( free)

I've just seen this- an open-access online course from the University of Copenhagen ( delivered in English). It may be of interest to some members of the forum? https://www.coursera.org/course/diabetes I don't know much more about course or what is included, but there is an explanatory video...

    Gliclazide

Hello everyone- a quick update on the Gliclazide experiment. I've been taking just 20mg per day, in the morning before breakfast for 2 weeks. It's lower than the recommended dose but the GP is ok with it. So far, so good- at such a low dose I didn't expect it to have much of an effect- but all...

    Gliclazide

Hi Elaine and Netty- thanks for your replies. Elaine- I know exactly what you are saying so I'm keen to avoid that. I just wasn't sure if Glicalzide would be a 'whip' as you described it (to ccontinue the analogy) or as some 'oil' for the cart to make it run more smoothly and put less strain...

    Gliclazide

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies- and some good info. It's really reassuring to know that there are other people in the same situation or with the same experiences. Your stories will definitely make me a little more cautious about Gliclazide. I didn't realise that Gliclazide could...

    Gliclazide

Hello everyone- Could I ask for some advice please? My consultant last week suggested that Gliclazide might be a possible medication to help even out some spikes that I see after eating. I'm currently on 2x500mg metformin and last HBA1C is down to 43 (6.1%) from 91 at diagnosis. So he said...

1.5/LADA what should I be asking the GP?

Thanks Phoenix- that's really useful and helped clarify a couple of things for me. I have a meter and I'm monitoring much more closely, allied to diet and exercise, so things are ( for the moment at least) looking much more controlled. I've bought my own meter and strips for the first set but...

1.5/LADA what should I be asking the GP?

Thanks Hale- I realised that my post was a bit ambiguous so have amended it. I'll definitely stick the question about ketone sticks on the list.

1.5/LADA what should I be asking the GP?

Morning everyone- I was 'diagnosed' last week as a possible type 1.5 (tall, thin body shape, reasonably fit, aged 37). Doctor has given me metformin 500x2 after first HBA1C of 91. Unfortunately I didn't really know of the 1.5/LADA condition until after I'd been to the GP so didn't know what...

I forgot also to say thanks to Daisy1 for all the info as well. Really kind of you.

    Hello - and thanks already.

Hi Elaine- thanks for the info. My doctor didn't suggest any of those but I'll go back to ask. I didn't really know about the type 1.5 until today so I wasn't armed with the right questions about it. Time to do a lot more reading and ask the right questions next time I'm at the docs! Thanks...

    Hello - and thanks already.

Hello everyone- just had my first HBA1c- 91/10.5. Doctor has given me metformin 500x2 but thinks I'm possibly type 1.5 (tall, thin body shape, reasonably fit, aged 37). I suspect we'll get a better picture in 3 months' time when the effect of a better diet and more exercise . Thanks so far...
