    Rotating sites for injection

I do the wild rotations too but lately it's about trying to find somewhere that isn't bruised or red from previous injections (especially my thighs which tend to be bruised, veiny and lumpy anyway). Is it normal to have red patches from the insulin? I fear my body is reacting to it a bit. I do...

    Rotating sites for injection

Hi, when I started on insulin I was put on mixed insulin injected twice a day and told to rotate between 4 'quarters' of my stomach and each outer thigh. I'm now on basal bolus so minimum 5 injections a day. How do you rotate injections sites when injecting so often? Thanks, Rachael

Am I on the wrong track completely?

I find that really interesting as before I was diagnosed prediabetic (but was struggling with tiredness etc) I also had incidents of low blood sugar symptoms resolved by eating. When I went to Dr I found I was prediabetic, tried 800 cal fast for a while aiming to reverse it and then when I...

Am I on the wrong track completely?

Hi there, I was diagnosed prediabetic and was about a stone overweight so I did high protein very low carb around 800 cals a day to try to reverse it. The prediabetes had come on very suddenly. After the fasting diet hba1c reduced and all seemed well... until I started eating more normally...

Diagnosed yesterday, first appointment today - they are a little baffled!

I was thinking Lada too. That was me (45, from normal to prediabetic to hba1c of 80 in a year, slightly overweight when prediabetic so did fast 800 and lost over a stone and hba1c stopped increasing. When i reintroduced a few carbs from November my Hba1c rocketed and i felt dreadful). Hopefully...

    Humulin I for Basal?

It's the specialist hospital diabetic nurse. Its frustrating seeing highs after eating and currently not treating them. She did give me a fast one to use only if my sugars are over 17 before a meal. Thankfully I haven't been that high but am keen to get going with the Bolus. I need to learn to...

    Humulin I for Basal?

Is Humulin I the best type of insulin to use for Basal? I am newly diagnosed type 1. Was started on mixed insulin Humulin M3 and after struggling to control highs and lows and advice given on this forum I asked to move to Basal Bolus regimen. The nurse has started me on Humulin I only, twice a...

What happens next? Need a bit of guidance

I found the initial info from the Drs /nurse very poor too. You have my sympathies. I was also someone who had rarely been ill and never even had a repeat prescription so again all quite overwhelming. My situation was different to yours in that I was diagnosed prediabetic first (again with very...

New T1 needs help with highs and lows please

I have just had a call with the nurse and she had advised me to reduce my evening insulin to avoid the overnight lows so hopefully that will sort that problem. She also said I could move to basal/bolus regime from mixed insulin if I prefer so will have to think about that.

New T1 needs help with highs and lows please

Just an update on this... it seems to be settling a bit now with lower highs after eating, although I'm still getting lows if not snacking regularly.Once it gets towards high 5s it plummets pretty quickly if I haven't snacked for a while. I'm wondering if it could be to do with honeymoon period...

How to keep insulin cool when travelling

There has been a post about this but it didn't answer what to do for your spare insulin that is usually kept in the fridge... My nurse told me to take plenty of spare insulin and kit when travelling. At home my spare insulin is kept in the fridge and the insulin pen in use is kept at room...

New T1 needs help with highs and lows please

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to reply. I am taking note of all of your advice, it's all a bit overwhelming to reply individually at the moment. I have left a message for my diabetes nurse to contact me. I am still going high on a morning and after most meals so I have increased my...
