In denial, with hba1c of 79

In a nutshell the harsh reality is you need to reset. Many of us make false starts on what must always be a permanent change in diet and lifestyle. But it has to be permanent. Your body has no idea you were celebrating, all it saw was carbs!! It helps to identify what foods are worse for you...

    No sleep no energy

You should ask for a full blood analysis. Although we concentrate on the very obvious Glucose levels diabetes and medication have a wide ranging effect. For me muscles tiredness, aches, and fatigue was low magnesium and low potassium. Adjusted and now fixed. (1 X banana per day along with...

Vegan diet no longer control my Glucose level

Vegan AND no fats? Isn't that........ a horse? Cow, Sheep? Or any other animal physically designed to have its nose inches from the field it walks about in? I mean really c'mon. Take a step back and ask if that's sensible never mind reasonable. Too far off the beaten track for me I'm afraid!

Vegan diet no longer control my Glucose level

I'd like to suggest reading Dr Giles Yeo. Gene Eating as a thoroughly good read and an insightful book as to the flaws I many of the more extreme diets (and why many are not as good for us as advertised) I haven't finished reading it yet but so far it's pretty spot on about the how and why and...

    Strawberry Jam

Good approach. Identify what sugar you do actually consume. I would actually just eat normally for a week but weigh everything and write down ALL sugar in everything and all carbs. I wouldn't even cut back portion sizes. Then you will understand how much you need to cut back. A little? A lot...

    Strawberry Jam

That's a weird combination. Then again I'm partial to peanut butter with prune yoghurt! Takes all sorts!! :-)

    Strawberry Jam

Listlad, welcome to the best place for all things diabetic and food. Cutting down or out all sugar is a great starting point and one we should all probably have done along while back ! Key to cutting sugar is to be really critical of food labelling and some of the sources of added sugar. As an...

    Strawberry Jam

I know this might sound like an off topic question but what are you planning to put this strawberry jam on? Mostly jam goes on bread, toast, biscuits or cakes. All of which are probably not the best idea for any diabetic?

Anyone else feel their Doctor(s) let them down ?

Now is it me being cynical or do I suspect that funding initiatives for Type 2, 'under the spotlight' lifestyle changes may be different to those for Type 1 ' genetic' non-life style linked? I have to suspect that reviews over 30 years couldn't have stayed as T1 and now suddenly change without...

Anyone else feel their Doctor(s) let them down ?

That's what I thought. And my optician was definitely aware and looking for retinopathy. But there was only 2 weeks between the two tests and the NHS one seemed to pick something up. So I shall take onboard this rather negative development.

Anyone else feel their Doctor(s) let them down ?

The fact you are on this forum means you understand that it is you that has the most vested interest in good outcomes. Like others I seem to find great advice here and where I need support I then ask my diabetic nurse or doctor to do their part. They usually do. Of note although I have fairly...

Anyone else feel their Doctor(s) let them down ?

Don't think you are on your own! I do feel sorry for Doctors as 'most' would like the time and resources to do more. And unless you are lucky to get a doctor who has Diabetes on his 'things to do list's then it will stay that way. Government strategy is very long term so recent announcements...

    When to go on metformin?

Cynicism works well. My DN keeps telling me my results are improving so maybe we can cut back on Metformin. I am concentrating on exercise and blood pressure for now so keeping Metformin stable is quite key. Told her I'd let her know when she can change my scrip. And it isn't now! And before...
