I'm 43 Diagnosed in July 2018 with T2 blood sugars were 103.... Started on Metformin change of diet cutting out chocolates, cakes, biscuits, full fat red coke 2L & anything for a sugar fix & substitute sweet things for meals but changed my lifestyle and eating habits & eating more healthy, even have something for breakfast now. I weighed 73kg 11 stone 5 - I don't go to the gym average build, slight mid age spread.
Returned in November 2018 for new blood tests, HbA1c 75, cholesterol tested this time was 0.1 over the higher amount of 5, so showed as "Abnormal" so take 1x alvorstatin a day since mid December, I weighed 73kg again - continued with the 4x Metformin a day
Last week more blood tests HbA1c show 52 - GP considers stablised
Cholesterol is abnormal but now at the other end of the scale now 2.7 ,the lowest should be 3.0
Weight 66kg 10 Stone 4
I have noticed the weight flying off me I've been just under 65kg / 10st 2
My belt has 2 new holes, I have constant thirst and dry mouth, pee 2-4 times during the night, can happily fall asleep for 2 hours in the evening, get blurred vision & ED - so basically all the symptoms of diabetes.
Been testing my blood sugars they usually between 8.5 - 12.2 couple of times 18.8 - 22 in last month.
GP says my blood sugars are stabalised at 52 and to keep taking the Metformin and the weight loss is "probably" due to the change in diet as the body is going through changes without the constant influx of sugars
However last week sent me to get a chest x-ray, I stopped smoking 2 weeks ago
I just think my GP surgery is lousy and not listening to me or taking my symptoms for real
I.m really concerned about the weight loss, even my partner has noticed I've lost loads of weight since December, she could see my ribs the other day when I was lying down.....
I've tried to research this but to be honest I think I'm going to loose the plot soon if I don't find out what is wrong with me.
Does metformin cause weight loss like this?
Sugar levels half what they were 6 months ago, body is producing insulin.... so slim chance of being T1 but GP won't test for that!
Have all the symptoms......
Can anyone help me please?
