Does early/slow developing type 1 often get misdiagnosed for prediabetes(type 2)?

I had some routine blood tests in May 2018 and had a raised HBA1C of 6%. I was told i was in the prediabetic range. It was a real shock as I am very slim, eat well and am a fitness instructor. At the time I was teaching 12 classes a week. I tried to pursue it as it just didn't seem right with...

    Gym life.

Hi, I don't do so much in the gym but I do a lot of fitness classes ( ex group fitness instructor for 14 years). I mostly do Body Pump (weights class), body combat, swimming, spin, yoga and barre and then lot's of long walks. I was diagnosed diabetic in Feb this year and confirmed as type...

    Type 1 Spin class

Thanks for your reply, I think I'll try that next week and have a small snack an hour or so before with some insulin and see if that helps keep things a bit more steady.

    Type 1 Spin class

Thanks for your reply. This class is very much alternating between sprints and hill climbs so pretty intense and possibly why its spiking me. Next week I will maybe try half a unit before the class and see if that flattens the spike at all without sending me low. I guess its all trial and error...

    Type 1 Spin class

Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone out there does spin classes and how their blood sugar reacts? I used to teach it for years before I became diabetic but have only just gone back to it as a diabetic. Blood sugar started at 5.9 and went up to 10.8. I'd prefer it didn't go that high but also...

    Help from experienced type 1

Yes levemir just one dose of 8 units at 9pm. I've heard about the need for a split dose and wonder if that is the issue. I'm going to see what it's like over the next few days and if I have the same issue, I'm going to call the nurse to discuss. The 6.7 fasting as an isolated thing doesn't...

    Help from experienced type 1

Thanks and yes I understand the concern of losing hypo awareness. Its only my fasting that is sometimes in the late 4's, during the day I aim for 5's and 6's before meals. I have a CGM so can deal with a hypo before it happens....otherwise I wouldn't be able to do the tight control because of...

    Help from experienced type 1

Thank you, like I say I know im probably being a bit of a drama queen.....I just want to do my absolute best to be in the best position to get pregnant and days like today make me feel pretty rubbish. Especially on my birthday. I appreciate so much the reality check that people in this group...

    Help from experienced type 1

Thanks for the comments, so good to hear from those with experience. I know I probably sound so dramatic but to go from fasting bloods of 4.5 etc to suddenly 6.7 freaks me out. I am only on 8 units levemir as basal so suspect that needs increasing. Bolus is 1 to 10 ratio but for example this...

    Help from experienced type 1

Hi everyone I hate that I'm writing this post on my birthday after months of great control. My insulin requirements seem to have gone ott since I had a filling at the dentist last week. I feel like insulin just doesn't want to work for me anymore. I am taking 1.5 times the amount of bolus...

    Started insulin this week

Just to follow up on this thread, I had the results of my first HBA1c yesterday since starting insulin and it was 39 (5.7%). I am really pleased. It was 6% in May 2018 but dismissed at nothing to worry about. It was 11.7% in February 2020 at diagnosis. 6.8% in June after going below 20g carbs...

    Type 1 Swimming and insulin

I was exactly the same when I first went onto Insulin but exercise has always been a massive part of my life so I'm determined to get it right. Whenever I try something new I make sure I am at least two hours after injecting any fast acting Insulin....some exercises seem to spike me (weights...

    Type 1 Swimming and insulin

Just thought I'd follow up with how I got on in case it helps anyone else in the future. So I braved a 30min swim today after yoga. I had last taken fast acting insulin at 9am, 4.5 hours prior but had two malted milk biscuits prior to getting in the pool as blood sugar was 6.1 and I wasn't sure...
