    Help with running

In 10 years running as a T1 I have always found a jelly baby a mile to be sufficient for me. However, all of this depends on what you are doing! For a 10K I would certainly use a JB a mile probably until the 5th mile and then I’d stop. Above that and I’d be looking to check my blood regularly...

    Diane Abbott T2

Sometimes criticism is not a bad thing..............I personally believe that the T2 is being used as an excuse for poor preparation. The first time, ok, yeah we all get it wrong. But you learn from that and in the middle of an election campaign you **** well make sure you learn from it and...

Inside Out Programme BBC1 (London) Tonight 7.30PM

Ok, a literal translation but the point I was making is that our advanced modern society has the ability now to carry out bariatric surgery as though its no big deal. It’s a convenient way to try and fix a long term problem with short term results. The hard way is to lose weight naturally. “Lose...

Inside Out Programme BBC1 (London) Tonight 7.30PM

I’m afraid the answer there could lie in the unavoidable truth that sticking to a low calorie diet and shedding the weight requires some serious motivation and will power. Not all humans possess those and would rather the easy option. And from a purse strings point of view, doing the surgery...

    Life Insurance

Thanks for the feedback, all in all, I think the best quote at £30 is going to have to suffice for now. However, I may be a nuisance and pursue Friends Life a little as they requested my medical info from the Doctor and then quoted £5 more than Legal & General who did not! I had a copy of the...

    Life Insurance

Ok, forgive me as I know there have been many threads on this before. I have just bought a house and trying to get life insurance. I've had two quotes so far which have been "loaded" and are coming out at £30-£35 per month compared to my non-diabetic wife who is £13 per month. This is...

I'm diabetic vs I have diabetes

diabetic adjective adjective 1. having diabetes. noun 1. a person suffering from diabetes. All the same. Interestingly, it's the same as being called a man (although the noun can also apply to woman!). man adjective 1. having testicles noun 1. a person suffering from having testicles

Does over eating give you Type 2 diabetes or does diabetes make you over eat

"While people who have diabetes are often heavy, one out of five people diagnosed with diabetes are thin or normal weight" "I think the truth is that as yet no one really knows what causes it as there does not seem to be any common factor in everyone that has it that they can pinpoint."...

    Discrimination at work

If I was you I'd go and speak to your immediate manager/HR and ask direct what is happening. There could be a simple explanation but meantime you could be blowing it out of proportion in your own head. You've been ill, diagnosed and are fit to work again so nothing should impact your promotion...

NHS restricting machines to the cheapest strip machine

Have they seen the size of a test strip? It's hardly made using a nugget of gold now is it! A flash of gold plate is all. Plus, what they conveniently skirt around is the fact that they are manufacturing these by the millions.....in fact I'd wager that a PO for these little babies is probably...

    Thin Type 2 Diabetic

The most significant risk factor for T2 is being overweight or obese and I think it's around 85% of the risk. So, I would imagine thin T2's are the minority and, as in most aspects of life, the majority rule.

    Joseph Kraft and hidden diabetes

I have doubts about the exercise levels of Kitavans being much the same - have a look on Google images and tell me what the average Kitavan looks like physically? They are traditional farmers. Send them mechanisation, electronic gadgets, cars and convenience food and go back in ten years time...

Sugary drinks tax? What about drinks for hypos?

I don't believe the cost of tobacco is the main driver for a decline in the number of smokers. Education is. The warnings on TV and on the actual packaging has probably done the most good as well as the advertising ban. What was once fashionable for everyone to do is now not even cool with the...

What is an acceptable HbA1c ?

My other concern would be that without a CGM how do you know your hypo awareness hasn't diminished? I could go see my Doc and say, yay no hypo's for ages now but in reality could be having several without noticing. CGM's for all.

Sugary drinks tax? What about drinks for hypos?

I'm stuck on the fence when it comes to the tax. Yes, if it helps the health of our nation but where does it end? Some form of personal responsibility must be applied somewhere along the line. Taking sugar on board is certainly not self defeating when I'm exercising. I couldn't run without my...
