    huge conflict with dietician

 35 years ago I gave up my promising (not) career as a miller -- maize and wheat. Also animal feeds production.

    huge conflict with dietician

My wife buys white chapati flour which has brown mixed if, if not, she mixes them herself -- TBH I don't know what percentages are but the white seems to be dominant.

    huge conflict with dietician

You need carbs, and the advice I got from my DN was to eat chapati because it releases carbs slowly (like some meds). My motto is "everything in moderation" -- the source of carbs, protein and all the other nutrients is as important as the amount of daily intake. Also, I believe the guy who...

    Indian Food !

I am of Indian origin. Haven't given up much by way of Indian food and now eat five small meals a day instead of three. My Diabetes Nurse advised me to keep eating chapatis as they are supposed to be slow-release as far as carbs go. Check out my HbA1c.

    NHS fines

Some of the suggestions from the government think-tanks (an oxymoron, if you ask me) are a subliminal message to the private health care (non) providers for when the whole NHS is sold off. Goodbye NHS -- welcome US-style health care (or not, as the case may be)

    Trop50 juice sweetened with stevia

I have to take Lactulose for hepatic encephalopathy, and the stuff is OK the first time you take it but by the time you get to the 2nd or 3rd dose, you feel sick so I mix my dose with orange cordial to mask the taste. I read up about stevia (it is natural and safe, unlike artificial sweeteners...

    Doctor Restricting Insulin Prescription

At one time I used to get three months' worth of Metformin on one script, then GP moved to once a month with all my meds -- pharmacy collects script(s) and delivers my meds end of each 28-day period. I was advised that this was a directive from NHS HQ. When I went away for three weeks, my GP...

Pros and Cons of being diagnosed as Diabetic

You may as well ask about the Pros and Cons of living and dying... read on: Do a search for "link between diabetes and liver disease". I suffer with NASH (non-alcoholic steato hepatitis or fatty liver) and have cirrhosis of the liver (diagnosed in August 2010) -- the consultant says it is very...

The worst care in the UK

It gets worse -- blood pressure which has always been in the average range has suddenly shot up, average of 200/103 over 24-hour period. Basically this is classified as a Hypertensive Emergency, but doctor won't ask for hospital admission, simply gave me a low dosage of meds, and said if there...

The worst care in the UK

When I joined my present surgery, I was unaware that I would have to see any one of five GPs. I refused and interviewed one of the GPs, advised him I only wanted to see the same GP every time as I needed continuity in my treatment. Basically, as I visit the surgery often, the GP should know who...

Richard Dawkins - Letter to his daughter

What I have found funny (through experience) was an incident involving a proselytizing, hard-core athiest (a bit like Dawkins actually), who was up an untethered ladder (before health & safety days). He fell some 8 or 10 feet to the ground and the first thing to come out of his mouth wasn't a...

Could Baked Beans be the answer?

Look up "glycemic index", a term which is increasingly being linked to diabetes control. Most information appears in three columns, low GI, Medium GI and High GI -- beans usually fall into the low GI category. Some sites will also give numerical (GI) values for different foods. A good place to...

    SACKED for having a hypo!

If you intend to take this further, say to Industrial Tribunal, then the time limit is very short, something like 3 months.
