    Honeymoon Period....Confusing !!

Hi, Something to discuss with your DSN is the possibility of using Levemir twice daily instead of once. Half a unit in the morning and half a unit at night will give a better, more even spread than the 1 unit dose that you were using previously, and it's also likely to stop the bedtime highs...

    Long-Standing Diabetic...Hypo Symptoms?

I find that my reaction to a hypo can vary depending on the speed that my sugars have dropped. If it's a long slow decline (perhaps caused by overnight basal) then I don't tend to sweat. If it's a rapid drop then I'll sweat like a very small nun at a penguin shoot.

    Anonymous Question Saladmaster

First off, "diabetes", and "type 1 diabetes" aren't necessarily the same condition. They claim that their product prevents diabetes, but not specifically type 1 diabetes. If anyone claims their product can prevent diabetes, cancer, death, gullibility, etc., the burden of proof always lies with...

    1.8mmol/L Hypo

Hi, I think the exact figure for a "showstopper" will probably vary from person to person. You also have to bear in mind meter accuracy. The figure according to Wikipedia is anywhere below 0.55 mmol/L. At a level of 1.8 I wouldn't personally bother with things like bread and honey (unless...

    Scary Night Saturday

Hi joelcam, While the kind of very high blood sugars that you were seeing aren't good, what causes a more immediate problem is when high ketones are present alongside high blood sugar. It's possible to have high blood sugar without a particularly high level of ketones, but high blood sugar...

    Hot weather

Hi, The first thing to try is changing your Lantus cartridge for a fresh one. This was usually the reason I'd have highs during hot weather while I was using Lantus. Worth a try at least.

    hot weather, holidays and hypos

Hi Dave, As a general rule, heat will speed up the absorption of insulin. Also as a general rule, the faster an insulin works, the sooner it will wear off. (These rules can apply to both basal and bolus insulins) This is why hot weather can lead to a yoyo effect in blood sugars because...

What Is The Most Accurate BG Machine To Buy For A New T2?

Re: What Is The Most Accurate BG Machine To Buy For A New T2 Hi, Of all the meters I've tried, my Accu-check Compact Plus is probably the most accurate. The Bayer Contour would probably come in a close second (the Contour's strips are a little cheaper than the Accu-check's if you're balancing...

    Lantus I

Hi Stuart, I'm going to stick my neck out and say that the majority of those people on a single shot of Lantus tend to take it before bed and at the same time each day. Other people on a single dose find it better first thing in the morning. There's not really a wrong time of day so long as you...

Really confused, what could be wrong with me?

Hi SugarSpike, Have a read up about reactive hypoglycemia and see what you think.

    Hypo's making me ill.

Hi Sponge89, You'll be surprised how many things can affect your insulin needs. As has already been mentioned, getting more exercise is one. Weight loss can also decrease your need for insulin as can a change in 'body composition' - like when you build muscle and burn body fat. It's also not...

    Lantus v Levemir

Hi, I've tried both Lantus and Levemir, and currently use Levemir 3 times daily. For me, both insulins have a shorter and slightly sharper action than perhaps the manufacturers intended. I found Levemir to be the more stable and reliable of the two. I don't notice any discernible peak with...

    Reusing needles

Hi, One of the main reasons not to reuse needles is contamination (like BobCornelius already said). A clean needle wound will heal faster and leave less scar tissue. If you reuse needles, you run the risk of increasing the amount of scar tissue that can building up over time and cause...

    Increase in hypos

Hi Larkin1, The first thing that comes to mind is Addison's disease. But hopefully it's not that. A more common reason for increasing lows is weight loss. Your body will tend to need less insulin as your weight drops, and slimness also comes with the increased risk of hitting muscle when you...
