    Breakfast ideas in a travelodge!

Crucial to consider that with porridge or wholemeal toast, the portion sizes are critical to control the carbs. With eggs, bacon, sausage etc the amounts are less important. Still have to watch the weight though!

    ex type 2

I always have two small slices of hovis bread ( total about18g of carbs) or 30 g of porridge (20g of carb), in any one meal. I think it is more the amount of carbs in a single meal that puts pressure on the panchreas, rather than the total amount in a day. So I try to eat carbs little and...

    Breakfast ideas in a travelodge!

If you are not vegetarian, a cooked breakfast minus the toast and only a small portion of baked beans should do no harm. I qctually manage to get once slice of wholemeal toast added to that, but you would need to experiment. I find a small bowl of branflakes with sweetner ( I always take...

how high and how low have you been?

My highest was about 15 after a large pasta meal. At initial diagnosis I was 13 at fasting. Now my normal fasting or pre meal is between 4.6 and 6. Two hours later it is normally between 5.7 and about 7. 4. Am on 3x500g of metforfin per day. Lowest reading was 3.7 after exercise.

baked beans - help with carb counting please...

Total carbs is always the starting point, but then the GI factor comes in when some carbs are more slow releasing than others. This is what the dietician will have been getting at, I think.

I think people should stand their ground on this. Demand test strips.

    blood monitor

Am I the only type 2 in the country who gets prescribed strips without a problem? My doctor did moan a little bit about it, so I asked what was the point in free prescriptions for a diabetic if I was forced to buy my own strips, which she realised I would do. I also reminded her of the extra...

How high is a high BG reading

When I get a rare high spike(anything over 9 two hours after eating) I usually find that a brisk 20 minute walk brings it right down. If the weather is too bad I use the stairs! Eddie

    Normal Life? or anywhere near.

Hi there I have been diagnosed about 7 months. In that time I have lost 5 stone, am much healthier and feel all round great. None of this would have happened without the diagnosis. Diabetes is not a great thing to have, but I look upon it as a blessing.also remember you don't have to give up...

    Orlistat

I have been on the drug for eight months, prescribed by the gp. I only take it when I have a fatty meal. It does give me the runs but I can put up with that as it has also helped my weight loss I am sure. It does not remove all fat from a meal, just one third of it I believe. I have lost around...
