    Freestyle Libre sensor

    I had one which was reading low. Called Abbott. They took some details and sent a replacement out. They want the old one back but send an envelope and necessary bags to send back to them Freepost. Fantastic customer service. This was during lockdown as well. vCalled on a Friday - new sensor...

    Meter suggestion

    BL (Before Libre) I used a One Touch Ultra and the associated One touch app and web page. This did all the things you are looking for - and you can share the app with your nearest and dearest. Doesn't have the data analysis tools that libre does obviously but you can print off results for the...

    Freestyle libre a1c

    The Libre A1c is estimated. It is based on an algorithm based on average blood sugars. Abbott recently did a learning session on Libreview data which covered A1c and as stated above the much more useful Time in Range. Many clinics are now using TIR as a better indicator of control. The key with...

    Insulin= Weight Gain

    Assuming you are on MDI then two obvious areas are the snacks and evening meal. Raisins and fruit are both good sources of sugar so try and find a low carb snack or not to use one. If you are snacking since you are low / hypo post exercise think about when you eat against when you exercise...

    Type 1 Tresiba - how long does it take to kick in

    I take mine at 6.30. Not sure how long it takes to kick in but I do start to get a drop overnight starting about 12 / 1 am. When I did my carb counting course they said the time you take it is not fixed since it joins a long chain (presumably of Tresiba molecules) so if you take it early it...

    Injecting through clothing???

    I have done. I have also been told not to since it blunts the needle plus alters the depth. I can usually engineer things to use a tummy or accessible site (Summer is great with shorts - appreciate others may have other items of clothes that get in the way but having bare legs is a godsend...

    Newly diagnosed Type 1 - Carbs and Insulin ratio

    If you can get a referral to a diabetes dietician. Mine has revolutionised my life after 40 years with T1! They will explain about the Carbs and work with the team to get you sorted. The thing with T1 is it is a whole person condition. If you remember that you will do fine.

    Holiday! Travelling with extra insulin....

    Take the insulin as Hand luggage. Never put Insulin in the hold. Some sort of cool bag maybe useful and sometimes security want the Insulin in the clear plastic bag - all depends. Insulin Correction Factor

    Out of interest how do you take fractions of a unit? 0.9 for example. Does 0.1 of a unit really make that much difference? Is it pump related? (I haven’t got one! ). Thanks

    Porridge and fresh fruit for me. Comes to just under 30g CHO and keeps you going to lunch time. I am a T1 and have moved to DAFNE made amazing difference. Insulin usage right down, and next challenge is to lose weight (I am 85Kg). Berries, Greek Yog, etc are all low carbs so the worlds your...

    What to drink at the pub

    I have found that my tolerance from a diabetic point of view to Red Wine has detoriated and I get on better with a dry white or fizz as others have suggested. Trouble with Vodka and coke is the sureity that it is diet coke going in your glass and not the full fat sort. I have had several spikes...
