    Blood Glucose Meters

I am in Stoke-on-Trent and have had a letter through, with an appointment to change over. Rang the practice and explained my reasons for why I want to stick with my Accu-check Mobile and they seem happy enough. I am partially sighted and having an all in one unit is less fiddly than separate...

How often do you change your needle?

I change mine after every injection. I use prefilled pens with mixed insulin and so after every injection the needle is removed. When I inject again I put a clean needle on. Needles are free on the NHS, so why risk and infection from a dirty needle..

    75 mg enteric coated aspirin

I take them on a daily basis with insulin and have had no side effects. Benefits for me are thinner blood and reduced heart problems...

HOW CAN THEY PUT ME INTO ESA WRAG GROUP WHEN MY WIFE IS CARE

Re: HOW CAN THEY PUT ME INTO ESA WRAG GROUP WHEN MY WIFE IS Yup failure to attend the medicals mean no benefits. I am disgusted to read all of your comments - and yes I am going through it all at the moment - and I am scared of what will happen to me. The medical is a joke - I have read a...

HOW CAN THEY PUT ME INTO ESA WRAG GROUP WHEN MY WIFE IS CARE

Re: HOW CAN THEY PUT ME INTO ESA WRAG GROUP WHEN MY WIFE IS They have an easy system.. If you turn up to the medical you are fit for work.. My sympathies to everyone having hassles, we are in the same boat along with every person who gets invited in for these 'joke' assessments. They are...

Fizzy drinks and people who don't listen

If we are going out for the night I have been know to take my own sugar free squash and ask for plain soda water to mix with it. If I am challenged about this I tell them to provide sugar free squash and I'll buy it, rather than bring my own. Simples as they say

Fizzy drinks and people who don't listen

I find that any Pepsi products give me palpitations, it has to be diet coke or nothing. I avoid anything connected to Pepsi like the plague as I am really ill after drinking it. Diet coke is fine.. The latest research now says that artificial sweeteners do not give you cancer. Bit like eggs are...

Fizzy drinks and people who don't listen

Sorry Paul I will continue to drink fizzy drinks and in particular diet coke. This is my choice, I choose to drink it. I don't drink anything hot and get tired of diet squash. I find water boring, fruit juice sends my sugar's sky high. I need fluid and so I drink fizzy diet drinks and squash...

Fizzy drinks and people who don't listen

Ring up KFC HQ - number below - and make your complaint to them and see what they have to say. Report the branch itself and their 'helpful' attitude. Whilst you are at it, explain the dangers they are putting yours and other diabetics health in and add a final threat of reporting them to...

Migrane with high BG levels .

If you used to have migraines and they stopped then the chances are they will return. I had them from the age of 16 until I was 17 and then nothing for 20 odd years and then they kicked in with a vengeance. I did question this at the time and that was the answer I was given. I get flashing...

Disposing of used pens and needles

I put needles in sharps bin, ensure that there is no insulin left in the pen and put that in the recycling bin. With two insulin using diabetics in the house we have a sharps bin each, they then go to the local clinic for disposal. I always ensure that the pens are empty - squirting unusable...

    New technique for finger pricking!

About 2mm above the joint if possible and on any finger, I tend to favour my smallest and the one next to it. Middle and index fingers tend to be a bit more sensitive and so I avoid them. Yup the less pain the better is my theory too and when you are testing up to 4 times a day - I am a type 2...

    New technique for finger pricking!

I never suffer any pain when using my fingers. A tip I picked up from this forum was to go just above the joint of the fingers where there are less/no nerves. Works for me every time and I test pain free. Use a low setting say 2, that way the needle doesn't go very deep. I have to take...

How do you cope with a partners diabetes

With understanding and patience. It will have come as a big shock to him and he'll be in denial and not want to face up to it.. Some men don't have the ability to see things the same way as we would do and would treat diabetes as a serious illness. There's two diabetics in my household, one...

    full teeth extractions

Please ensure that you go to your GP and get a course of antibiotics before you have your teeth removed.. I recently had a tooth out, asked the dentist if I needed antibiotics before it was extracted and was told no. 4 painful weeks later and two courses of antibiotics later I am finally...
