Are you open about diabetes or embarrassed about it?

Not embarrassed; maybe in the beginning when injecting in public. I think the world needs educating when it comes to type one. Gladly discuss if someone shows interest.

Just watched stand up comic and type one diabetic Ed Gamble on Amazon. He is pretty hysterical. Yes, he does diabetes jokes!

hello ! I am from Chile and I have type 1 diabetes since 2011, my latest doctor want me to take ator

Hi. I've been taking it for at least a year with no side affects. My cholesterol was also very low. It's a precaution against stroke and heart attacks because, as my dr. said, diabetics' blood is "sticky". :cat:

    Burnout

Hi, Jayne. Please try to get treatment for your depression. You might need some meds. I think if you can control that part, type one control will be much easier. Lack of control leads to depression, too, so it seems to be a vicious cycle. Best of luck.

Airport Security. Can I keep pens in the box?

Pens, not always in the box; but vials, always in the box.

Flying with Omnipod for the first time

Hi. I've flown three times with my omnipod and didn't notice any problems. Just hate the security part. I always go through the full body scanner (with my Dexcom), but now looks like I'll always have a pat down as well. Oh, well. I had read that pumps with tubes can have issues, but omnipod...

Opinions wanted from fellow type 1's

Here's my most recent issue: I also have rheumatoid arthritis and had to make a choice today, keep having pain from a bad flare up or take steroids, which make me insulin resistant. I also hate my dexcom waking me up all night with false low readings.

    cgm

Hi, Nick. It's normal for dex to be way off for the first 24 hours after inserting a new sensor. There is also up to a 20% difference in the readings of dex and your meter. I, personally, think that some sensors are just not as accurate as others. Now that I've re-read your message, I think...

    Pump Choice

Hey, Sal. I've had an omnipod for a month. You can swim with it, but they recommend against taking it in the jacuzzi. I recently tried it by applying the pod to the back of my arm and keeping that arm above the water, but it wasn't easy...lol. I like that you can shower with the pod. Good...

    First holiday abroad since diagnosis!

Hi. I'm going to assume you are not wearing a CGM or pump as you are a newbie, so that shouldn't be a problem with security (if you get these later, you'll have to go for the full body scan). My advice is: bring a lot of glucose tabs, wear a medical ID bracelet, don't forget your insulin pens...

    Starting Omnipod

Hi. I just started with omnipod about two weeks ago. Since I injected lantus in the morning, my trainer told me just to skip it. I love, love, love my pump and hope you will, too. The only problems I've had are trying to use the rest of my insulin from my pens (trainer had a problem, too)...

I'm on my fourth day in Omnipod Land and feel lucky to have also just made it to having Medicare approve. Same thing with Dexcom G5. It's good to be old, have T1, and have Medicare catch up!
