What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

4.7 again this morning. I seem to be stuck on that number! No I don't taste them although I remember the first time I made an effort to 'go into ketosis' I was aware of them on my breath for a week or so. Over time measured levels seem to settle down and there's very little excess/spilling.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Coffee. Early: Scrambled eggs, sauerkraut. Pomegranate juice - a DIY attempt at fermenting some. It still tastes a bit too sweet, so just had a small glass. It was nice and fizzy. Lunch: Salad w walnuts and blue cheese dressing. Later: Roasted spicy chickpeas, few corn chips. Matcha tea.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

FBG 4.7. I'm not measuring ketones because I'm almost out of testing strips.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

4.3 glucose and 0.9 ketones at 6.30 am. My throat was sore last night so I had a spoonful of manuka honey before bed and another around 1.30am. I thought my glucose might have tested higher as a result but instead it looks like my ketones took a hit. :) All good.

Ketones - how high is too high?

Doctors who take a ketogenic diet and fasting approach (like DRs Jason Fung and Mindy Pelz for example) say they're not comfortable seeing ketone levels over 7. I've never seen over 6.1 and this has been during an extended fast when I reached a level of therapeutic ketosis. In nutritional...

Ideas to lower fasted BG levels

Yes, a dual meter can be helpful for fasting. I use a Freestyle Optium Neo from Abbot. When glucose levels dip low with fasting (or carbohydrate restriction) it's reassuring to see the ketone level rise and know your body is happy burning fat. You will know this anyway based on how you feel...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I was away a couple of nights. Anyway, I ate well. Numbers stayed good. So, today. Coffee -I'm making it progressively weaker, and enjoying it more. How strange! So long as it's more coffee tasting than dirty dishwater tasting...it stays. Early: Steak. Avocado. Hibiscus tea. Later: Poached...

Ideas to lower fasted BG levels

Some people have found having apple cider vinegar (in water) in the evening lowers their morning fasted blood glucose. I haven't read Dr Fung's article on vinegar but I've seen youtube videos from various sources describing how the acetic acid signals via the stomach for glucose to be directed...

Climbing back on the wagon is hard and depressing.

It's easy to caught out with the different numbers. The same sometimes for glucose measurements!! Your Hba1c is measured in mmol/mol, and LittleGreyCat's in %. 8.7 % = 72 mmol/mol

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

4.4 this morning. FBG ranged from 3.8 - 4.3 over the weekend. I'm still measuring ketone levels of between 2 and 3 each morning. It seems to take me a lot (timewise) to get into ketosis and then a lot to nudge me out of it! Grains will do it quickly but I'm steering clear of them lately.
