    World Diabetes Day

A couple of years ago there used to be a Denim for Diabetes day ( like jeans for Genes ) what happened to that? My son had an appointment at the hospital yesterday in the Diabetic Home Care Dept. and there wasn't any evidence of diabetes day even there.

    "Hypo fit"

CarbsRok Not much sleep lost on my husbands side as he's slept through the few lows my sons had over the last couple of weeks. Howvever, basal rate now at a level where no lows for last 6 nights, whew! ( and he's just learnt how to "dual wave" bolus so we'll see what happens.

    DLA for your child

Niamh's mum Sorry you've been turned down, hope your appeal is successful. We got higher rate for my son when he was 18 months old and it's been reviewed every 3 years. The last time we only got the lower rate because at 13 he's deemed to need less care. Wish I'd appealed now because as a...

    "Hypo fit"

Thanks for comments. Have reset pump for max delivery so hopefully he won't be able to overdose. The night he had fit his BM was 13.9 going to bed. I have received DLA for my son since 1st diagnosed at 18 months. He is now 13 and at last review it was reduced to lower rate for care. I have assumed when he is 16 he will apply on his own behalf though reading posts here I'm now not sure that is the case.

The freedom it gives us as a family is well worth the regular BM monitoring ( with occasional nite ones too) and it means just one needle every 2-3 days, when the pump is changed. The downside is he eats more carbs cos he...

    "Hypo fit"

Thanks Hana. I now know its rare but can't help feeling worried about him being away from home at night. At least it's made us all step up to the mark- we were becoming a bit complacent as he's actually very well and fairly well controlled. ( last HbA1c 7.9) which I've been told is not bad for a...

    "Hypo fit"

My 13yr old son has been type 1 since he was 18 months old. He has his insulin via pump for 2 years. On Monday night he had a fit during the night. Although I have a nursing background I had no idea that this could happen. He is usually pretty ok with pump but that night had was overzealous...
