I hope you continue to learn what works best for you. I can’t offer any advice as my diabetes is steroid induced and spending the day in bed sipping water still records BG in the high 20s!
Best wishes
How can I manage a non-diabetic hospital admission? Food served on most of the wards is very high carb, very few vegetables and puddings full of sugar. Staff wonder why BG not controlled .... hmmm let me give that some thought then!
Your soup maker sounds fab. I use a slow cooker then blitz in the food processor, making a huge mess whilst I’m at it. Think I’ll invest in a soup maker - any advice to makes/functionality? Thanks x
I grow my own veg and make unusual combinations of soup, depending on what’s around. I still have butternut squash and pumpkins to use up. Daughter was ill and wanted Heinz tomato soup so I joined her, last time ever!
Yesterday I had tinned soup instead of my usual home made version. BG 6.3 before lunch had risen to12.5 by tea time. I’m steroid induced diabetic so used to high readings during chemo treatment but this is my week off so used to BG in single figures. Anyone else been caught out? Moral of the...
B - (7.3) porridge with oat milk and chopped banana. Half grapefruit large orange, kiwi and grapes.
L - (16.9) beans on slice seeded bread
D - (29.2) vegetable stew and jacket potato. Half grapefruit orange, kiwi.
Struggling to keep BG under control and steroids start again next Tuesday. Better...
I have had readings like that when I’ve had too much insulin in the morning trying to compensate for steroids.
I find eating 3 times a day helps to stabilise me and I test before every meal so I can see a pattern over time of what my ‘normal’ range is. Good luck xx
Thank you KK123, your support is much appreciated. I’m quite a tough cookie and a little bit militant sometimes. If people want to make a point of staring that’s their choice. They could look away if they’re needle phobic or whatever. I refuse to stay home and feel sorry for myself or let taking...
I’m on chemotherapy for life now, some of my injections are to support my white blood cells and my immune system. Public bathrooms rarely have a clean dry, flat surface to mix liquid and powder but I keep looking and return to the places with the best facilities. I haven’t yet found an...
Unfortunately the same prejudices apply to cancer injections in public, in my experience. That’s after they’ve had a good stare and talk amongst themselves about my bad hair day (for that read “no hair” day). Strangers would rather I wore a wig or hat in public, even on a 30deg summers day, and...
8.8 this morning. Great considering only 2 days post steroids. Also had busy day out yesterday watching my daughter and ate burger and chip type of food. Wondering whether I would be diabetic if I wasn’t on chemo? Ah, I can dream!
Thank you, I will admit to occasional jealousy of ‘normal’ diabetics. I just get my levels down to 6ish then it’s time for more chemo! 11 years of cancer treatment caused steroid induced diabetes, but I’m still upright and breathing and defying the medics.
