Have a look at Dr Michael Mosely's Radio 4 program (on BBC Sounds) about the Canadian research about eating ground flax seed to lower cholesterol - it's worked for me; a couple of tablespoons of that and one of chia seeds has seen my Total Cholesterol fall from 5.5. to 4.7. It's still not down...
