    CGMs

Hi All, I completely agree with Alan's post above re driving & sensor accuracy. I also tried the Medtronic Enlite CGM system with a Medtronic Veo pump & it was significantly less accurate, plus the sensors only lasted 10 days maximum.

    CGMs

No, the sensors are waterproof, and I've not knocked one out at all. It sticks out about 1cm, but the base is broader than the top so it's pretty stable as long as the sticky is good. You can't replace it if it falls out - once the insertion needle is withdrawn it only leaves a tiny thin sensor...

    CGMs

I have the Animas Vibe pump & use Dexcom G4 with it (self funded). I've been keeping each sensor in as long as I can (apart from the first which I removed after 40 days as was scared would cause some internal scarring - it was still working fine & there were no ill effects on me). I usually have...

New - 4 Days - with Sports question

I have type 1, use a pump & enjoy cycling, am nowhere near as fit as you but do it pretty often. To give an idea of intensity, when I ride with my kids I run at about 60-70% of my max heart rate & if riding alone I'm above 70%, with decent periods of 80-90% of max (based on my age). I do between...

    Exercise and going hyper afterwards

Hi Pipster, i get this, it's a normal physiological response. When you exercise you use muscle glycogen & glucose in the bloodfirst, lowering BG, then start to use alternative fuel sources & your liver releases glucose. When we stop exercise this continues for a while - longer in diabetics than...

    Perfect Low Carb Bread Recipe!!

Thanks for the tip Sam, (sorry this reply is so late) - I did put it on the quick white loaf setting so that may have been my mistake. Feeling quite excited about trying it again now!

    Perfect Low Carb Bread Recipe!!

Mine really didn't rise much at all - was very dense in the middle & kind of "wet". I did use a different type of wheat gluten though (got it from low carb megastore & it's 7.7g carb per 100g) & reduced the flaxseeds in my 2nd attempt as I didn't like the very strong flaxseed taste. I used about...

    Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems

Info from US conference re accuracy of CGM http://www.diabetesdaily.com/voices/201 ... reatments/ Says Dexcom are best with readings on average within 10.8% of venous glucose readings, then Abbott Navigator at 12.3%, then Medtronic Enlite at 17.9%. That matches my experience comparing Dexcom...

    Lentils and beans?

I count carbs in lentils & beans, for sure. I was taught not to count carbs in veg apart from beans, sweetcorn, root veg & tomatoes, which can contain quite a lot.

    Which do u prefer

I have the Animas Vibe & love it - had the Animas 2020 before that for 4years & after trying the Medtronic Veo for 2weeks decided to stick with Animas - so it can't be that bad! The Vibe is compatible with CGM - I'm self funding & using the CGM continuously at the moment. It's the Dexcom G4...

    Tassimo Coffee Pod Machine Warning

Is 4.8 the total carb content of a 275ml latte/cappucino? If so, that's actually really low! Check out the nutritional info on the Costa Coffee website for cappuccinos & lattes - 10.8g carb of which 10.3 is sugar for a small cappucino, 11.6g of which sugar is 11.2g in a small latte. It's not...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

Current GMC guidance is that if a doctor is going to comment on medical matters on the Internet AND identify themselves as a doctor, then they should identify themselves by name.

    Purchasing a CGM

Sorry, realised didn't answer all your questions! I discussed buying the CGM at my pump clinic appt & the consultant liaised with the pump DSN & we arranged a meeting with the nurse & the rep where I was shown how to insert & use the sensor. I met again after the trial to download my CGM data &...

    Purchasing a CGM

Hi mushypeabrain - yes, the Animas local rep gave me 2 sensors on a free trial which lasted me for a month, and I decided to buy it after that - I've heard the same from a few other people & think this is pretty standard.if you contact Animas they should be able to give you the number of your...

    Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems

Hi Engineer88, I'm sorry this reply is pretty late, I don't come on here that often & was also trying to let the dust settle wrt the alternative view that CGM is a waste of money. Anyway, I got my Vibe pump at the end of April then ordered the CGM starter kit for £500. I put my first sensor in...
