I was diagnosed diabetic for 14 years when in hospital with pancreatitis - I had just retired! I was seriously overweight at 18 stone and think I had been pre diabetic/diabetic for some time. I was overweight as a child (10stone @ 11) the lightest I have been since teens is 9st 3lbs. A large meal has sent me to sleep certainly since late teens. I have slept through many a performance that I wanted to see! I have been reading diet info since my teens - teething on the excellent Slimming magazine late 50's - early 60's for which Prof John Yudkin was a main contributor and my favourite. I used a low carb diet to lose weight in my teens - count to 10 units. I put on a stone in weight during 2 weeks of honeymoon and the yoyo story has continued thro' my life - childbirth didn't help. Climbing up to the 18stone at 58. Post pancreatitis I followed a low carb and for a while no alcohol diet. I lost 4stone then plateaued - now usually around 13.12 but Christmas went up to 14.3. Lowest in recent years 13.4. I find I can when focussed have good control of my blood sugar but do slip especially as I can control the weight in other ways than just low carb. However my last 3 month check I was at 10 and I have some signs of neuropathy, also my legs ache more and my balance is not as good as it was so I have to be more mindful of what I do and eat (Yes mindfulness is something else I have embraced over the past few years). So I am here to raise my awareness and learn from others. We are all different and need to take charge of our own lives and find the right way for us. I am aiming to be at least as fit at 80 as I am now and preferably fitter and lighter

also metformin - trying slow release but 1000mg not enough 2000 too much and twice a day defeats objective
Stopped a year later 2017 disagrees with me
the insulin is lantus which is slow release. I take it at bedtime usually .32 to .34 ml Following fast and diet regime for a month I reduced it to 20ml
no other meds - now on 2.5 lisiniprol 2017

Exercise
minimum of an hour a day walking the dog, yoga once a week, sometimes get to dance :)

the countryside; my friends and relatives;, my dog and interest in politics pursued on FB and non party political groups; live music mainly blues and folk and dancing to it when possible
