Fasting Readings

I desperately need some insight and help with my blood sugar readings.
Here is some background information about myself. The last 3 months I've been having a lot of trouble with anxiety and depression. All starting when i got a terrible fungal infection that I'm still dealing with today. One thing my doctor wanted was to check me for diabetes. I did the blood test at the hospital yesterday so i have not received those results yet. But my mother does own a home used glucose reader. So i checked my fasting sugar level and it was 5.7... That reading was about 8 hours after eating the night before. So i checked my sugar level thay night and it was 4.3. .... if it matters i didn't eat much that day because of my anxiety. So i decided to fast myself again last night, so it was over 8 hours before i took my fasting reading. This time it was 5.9. ... i took the test again at 10 hours after eating and it was 5.4 reading.
So i would truly appreciate it if someone with knowledge about this could let me know what these readings mean. I have done some research and it seems that I'm pre diabetic. So now thinking about that my mind is just out of control. My anxiety is full blown at the moment and I'm just overall scared at what these readings mean.
I'm a 28 year old male.
Thank you so much in advance.

Thank you very much for the information urbanracer.! I definitely would agree with you, i don't believe i am diabetic. From comparing the website you provided and one I've looked at which is the Canadian one. I have a feeling i maybe pre diabetic. On the U.K. website it says fasting numbers should be under 6.1, and the Canadian site says fasting numbers should be under 5.7...Given that I am assuming I'm at the beginning of pre diabetes.
I know there are things i can do to help that. But at the moment my anxiety and depression has really disconnected me with being able to handle this information. I know my stress, anxiety, and depression isn't helping anything. A lot has happend to me (health wise) in the last 3 months.
Any more information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Hi @east coast
From the results you hv shown, it seem u r not diabetic, but why the doctor is concern with diabetic and sent u for a blood test. It must has a good n valid reason to do so. Ask your doctor why when you go for the next appointment. Don't just draw conclusion that you are diabetic.

Thank you khkwong, I think the reason my doctor has tested me for diabetes is mainly because of the skin fungal infection i currently have. I believe it's because the infection i have wont go away and i have had a fungal infection like 4 or 5 years ago also. To me this isn't just an every day fungal infection because i have fungal rash in numerous spots on my body.
Thank you very much, any more insight from people would be great.

Some non-medically trained diabetics could guess at your a diabetic in 'remission'. Even in remission the effects from previous poor diabetic control can leave a diabetic with lingering symptoms.
However you are having new flare ups even on good control? Or are these fungal infections old and clearing up - just slowly?
Keep in mind that non-diabetics get fungal infections too. Yeast build up from poor diet.
You might need to consider changing your diet even if your not diabetic.
Also keep in mind that anti-depressant tablets are brilliant and can have a confusing effect on energy needed to gear yourself up for a vibrant day. Anxiety itself prevents that too.
A slower lifestyle can put you at risk.
Myself I think whether your diagnosed diabetic or not your diet needs tweaking to help with those fungal infections.
You don't have to suffer them in silence.
I had thrush for nearly 3yrs but mine was because of bad sugar control. My meds stopped working and i ended up back on insulin. I'm a long term diabetic. Self diagnosed at 6yr old (39yrs of suffering the symptoms intermittently).
I cannot prove this but I'm now convinced I've been in and out of remission through diet and exercise.
I hope this throws some light on your concerns but ultimately YOU will need to maintain a healthy diet to give yourself a better chance of a healthy body.
These forums are set up to help and support you if diabetes is the culprit. :)

Hi @east coast

So, you need to be a little wary of how you interperet the figures in that chart, because single finger prick type tests can only really be used for guidance. Some non-diabetics will get higher numbers with some meals, it depends on the individual and the food being consumed.

Even for a diagnosis of pre-diabetes, your doctor (or hospital specialist ) will use something called the hba1c number. Put simply, they have a way of working out what your average blood glucose level has been over the previous 2 to 3 months. In the UK this will either be quoted as a percentage (6.0% is our threshold value for Pre-diabetes) or sometimes in mmol/mol (42 to 47mmol/mol).

Hope it turns out that you are not diabetic - good luck.

Thank you people very much for your input. It is truly great people can relate with others, it certainty makes them feel like their not alone.
I just wanted to share my most recent blood test results so hopefully it will help someone in the future!
So I was given a professional blood test from my doctor, including fasting glucose and the A1C test. So my fasting glucose was 6.0, which i know is the high normal range. And my A1C result was 5.3%. Given that, I understand my fasting result (6.0) wasn't too good, but my A1C result (5.4%) was in the normal range. So I don't believe I'm necessarily in the danger zone for pre diabetes.
But going through this will definitely make me try to go through the steps to prevent diabetes and pre diabetes.
Also I would like to add this, again I am not a doctor, though everyone is different and their bodies react different to some situations. I'm a believer that stress, depression, anxiety, sickness, etc.. Can do strange things to the human body, and in my case I think my glucose readings would be much better if the last 3 months of my life wasn't filled with anxiety attacks, depression, extreme stress. This led to me not eating well at all, pretty much no exercise, terrible sleeping routines, and just a overwhelming feeling of being unwell all together. If you suffer from any of this stuff I believe this could be the reason for some people to have not so good results with blood sugar and anything at all to do with the human body. It is easier said then done, but letting go of the worry and stress will improve your health over time. And if you have some type of infection or sickness it may alter any results of test you have done.
Thanks again for all the feed back I got.
