Morning high....

I am not a diabetic as far as I know- but I am worried about developing it. I am 37, fairly active- but overweight- typical rugby player build! I have had Atrial fibrillation for 5 years and had an ablation 6 months ago, and 3 weeks ago my 6 day old son died- bit of a rough time! So at the moment I feel rough, anxious which makes me feel shaky sometimes.

I have a glucose monitor and have been monitoring my blood. Each morning on waking it is usually in the high 5s or low 6s. This is often more than when I go to bed! If I dont have breakfast and test it an hour later it is down to low 5s. If I skip breakfast (which I usually do - naughty!) before lunch it is high 4s and then two hours after lunch returns to about the same reading- same with dinner, but depends on what I have eaten, sometimes high 5s again. The fact it goes back to what it was makes me think I am OK- but why is it 'high' on waking? I have asked Drs but they don't really know- they say on waking sometimes the body releases glucose to help you get up.

I had a tolerance test 2 years ago which was fine, and I guess everytime I am in hosp (like for the ablation) they do a random blood glucose- which has never been mentioned as high.

I am probably paranoid due to recent bad events happening- but does this borderline high reading on waking mean anything?

Grateful for any help you can offer.....

Hello billymill and welcome to the forum. :)

So sorry to hear of your sad loss and your other problems too. It is not surprising that you are anxious and it would be wise to go and see your GP.

Non diabetics have a dawn phenomenon as well. This gives you higher blood sugar levels first thing than at other times of the day especially the afternoon when you have not had lunch.

It does not appear that your blood sugar levels are anything to worry about.
