Hello everyone, I hope I’m posting in the right place. I’ve not posted before.
Could somebody clarify for me please. I am a childminder and looking to purchase a van. Can I drive a vehicle with 8 passenger seats, ie is it 9 seats in total, one for the driver and 8 passengers. Or is it 8 seats in total ie 7 passengers? Please? I can’t find clarification on DVLA site and I was 20 on the wait list when I called today!!

Its complex, as it is not just the number of seats, but if they are "full seats" and if driving the van is your job. (For example a teacher who drives children on school trips is not considered to be driving as their job, but a person who is paid to collect children and take them to school is even if they also work at the school. )

You need to first check on the back of your licence to find the list of vehicles types you can drive, (it will be a list of letters) the look up what each type mean.
