Good morning.
I am a type 1 diabetic of 23 years and in the last 6 months have started to have high sugars at anytime of the day 3 or 4 times a day and i am desperate to find a solution. My specialist has had me using a pump for the last 4 months and it does not seem able to control things.
If i increase my basal to correct problems after tea for example the high sugars then appear at another time of the day. I then adjust for that time of the day and the high sugars move to another time.
I now am giving myself the maximum 3 units per hour and still my sugars go very high.
Has anyone had this experience or know of any reasons and solutions for this. I have enquired about a fully automatic smart pump but am told this is not available yet!!!

Hello - I also can have unexplained high readings during the day... and then sudden drops and hypos during the night. Things got better when I read the book Think Like a Pancreas and got a better undertsanding about what causes increased blood sugar because (this surprised me) it's not just eating carbs! So here are the things which give me a spike: any sort of social interaction; any sort of stressful situation (including just a challenging meeting, giving a presentation, or thinking I might miss the train); anerobic exercise (I'm not a gym bunny but volunteer at a local charity shop and lifting/moving donation bags does it). Sometimes a spike comes as a natural 'bounce' after going low (not hypo). Does any of this sound familiar?
