Hey,

I have type 1 diabetes (think it's written in my signature). Anyway, in Summer 2011, I noticed a small lump in my neck. I was staying in Portugal for a few months, so got it checked out when I came back - I wasn't too bothered, just figured it was a cyst or something, but Mum was adament on me going and getting checked out because I have a family history of breast cancer on both sides, and non-hodgkins lymphoma on my Mums side. The DR sent me for blood tests, which came back fine, but old me to keep an eye on it. 5 months later, it is still there, and has got a tiny bit bigger. I've also got a very small one on my collar bone. I've got some associated symptoms, and my DR has now referred me to a specialist in the hospital, and a blood test on Thursday.
I was wondering, how are blood sugar levels affected by cancer?... I know that when i'm ill with colds and stuff that they go high; so does it do the same thing with cancer?? I have consistently high blood sugars, despite taking ALOT of insulin.

Thanks!

Hey Rebecca!

I can't answer your question, but I had to login to tell you to stay positive! I know cancer is what you're fearing and it's scary, but I have had a lump in my neck for about 20 years. It appeared one day for no reason. Then it grew bigger. I went to the doctor and after much prodding and poking it turned out to be the stub of a tonsill from an apparently botched tonsillectomy when I was 6 years old  It still sometimes scares the life out of me when it gets infected, aches etc. At the time I thought I was dying! I didn't! It's still here giving me grief on occasions - but so am I  My point is - don't jump to conclusions! Have your tests. Wait for the results. Then deal with what comes up. It might be nothing like what you're fearing!

Take care sweetheart. I'll keep my fingers crossed that all's OK!

Thanks for that! Needed something positive. I know that all I can do is sit and wait it out, and it is more than likely absolutely nothing. Its just hard when you've been through the whole 'be positive, it's probably nothing thing' when waiting for diagnosis of diabetes, and the outcome has been horrific before.

I'll let you know if it's something, if not, assume its nothing, because the latter is probably more likely :p Thanksss x

And, tell that lump to be good ;)
