Alder Hey - any views welcome

Hi

Hoping to speak to my daughter's GP about referring her to Alder Hey rather than our local hospital. We've become progressively more concerned about the standard of care our daughter is getting and the quality of advice we are given. Alder Hey seems the obvious alternative choice for us but any views from someone who currently uses them would be great.

Although I can't reply directly to your question, I can support you in saying if you are not satisfied with the treatment being offered to a very serious disease if not treated properly, then you should demand an other option. Tax payers are paying for the service, and should have rights and options.
If you get nowhere write to your MP.

Hi Bushy

the staff at Alder Hey are out of this world, been going there with my son since he was 22months old, he is 11 now, there are 3 main nurses, who can be contacted by phone any time, they never talked down to our son, always ask him what he wants to do with his teatment, (then ask us  )

Hi
I was diagnosed at the age of 6yrs old and have now been diabetic for 36 yrs.
I was reading your story, if you feel your not getting the right info or support you are entitled to a second opinion, don't let the doctors talk you down, You need to feel confident as well as your daughter.
I am interested in helping youngster as i would like to know how they get taught to inject or do their diet and how they cope mentally, also their families.
If you wish to talk privately you cam private message me.
Hope all goes well
Take care, stick to your guns
Tracey

dont know where you are currently going but...

eldest daughter was under alder hey as she was diagnosed when we lived in bootle - fantastic great - especially specialist nurses

we moved to southport and found the care no where near as good

because she had been under them initially then when i asked, they took her back

a few years later another child of ours was diagnosed with diabetes, and we had to go local - no chance (although i asked) that we could go to alder hey - they are much more at the forefront of trying new things and also the support for the family and if you can go there i would go for it 100%

Hi,
My daughter is now 13. We live on the Wirral but were referred over to The Royal last October as Niamh was approved for an insulin pump, which wasn't available at Arrowe Park at the time. All I can say is phenomenal care and brilliant support given. There is one DSN who has dealt with us continuously and has been fantastic. Always contacts us if we need her (even on her holidays and beyond 9-5 hours). Never had any experience of Alder Hey in a Diabetes capacity, but have had dealings with them for Burns Clinic and Plastic Surgery and they have been 110% also. xx
