HBA1C results - not great

Hi everyone,

Had my diabetes bloods done on Thursday, got the results through today online, HBA1C is at 65, down slightly from 69 in January this year but still not good. I had been doing well with a low carb diet again for a few weeks and once again fell off the wagon with it due to stress, anxiety and it would seem a complete inability to look after my own health. I'm currently taking 1 Alogliptin tablet a day and have managed to lose about 5 pounds in weight (honestly don't know how).

My cholesterol results this time are also very high and quite concerning, they're all in the 'red bracket' now, not good. I spoke to a DN a few weeks ago and she had advised to wait until these tests were done and come back and see her to possibly discuss being put on Mounjaro through the NHS for the diabetes, not weight loss, although I do have a few stone to lose. I don't think I would qualify for this and it's not about getting it through NHS, I have seriously considered buying it online privately (from a reputable pharmacy), but it does scare me, DN and GP both told me it would probably be ok for me but something has stopped me getting it.

Possibly because my body does not seem to react well to diabetes meds, had to stop Metformin for stomach issues and Rybelsus as it caused me such severe headaches I couldn't see after 3 days. Hence the reason I'm now just taking Alogliptin which I know does very little. So it's back to low carb for me again, I just wish I had the willpower to stick to it long term as I know it works for me, but every time my mental health worsens I just can't do it, doesn't help having a partner who is not remotely interested in eating healthily and finds it difficult to support me through this.

Does anyone know of any other medications I can speak to the DN about that might help me lower blood sugars, I'm going to make an appt to see her hopefully next week, I know she'll be disappointed I'm back here again but no more than I am in myself. Sorry for the long post, just had to vent a bit about this.

Have you tried Metformin Slow Release? I didn't get on with Metformin either, but I'm fine with SR. Please don't beat yourself up. Your A1c did drop, albeit just a bit, and 65 isn't totally horrible. You'll get there.

Thank you, and yes, it was Metformin SR I was taking, last twice they've put me on them I just couldn't tolerate the side effects with my stomach. Hopefully DN will be able to suggest something else, for now it's back to low carb and testing again for me.
