Positive side effects from Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)

I was lucky to be one of the first people to be prescribed Tirzepatide on the new NHS anti-diabetes programme, that started in June 2025.

I have now been taking Mounjaro for 100 days. I'm pleased to say that I've had no negative side-effects at all. So far, I've lost 11kg.

I have, though, been surprised by some of the positive side-effects that I'd not expected. I am interested to know if there have been similar experiences with other people:

- Within a few days, continuing until now, I've felt a very positive effect on mood. Euphoria, mainly. I've often had the impulse to laugh out loud with delight, or start singing or whistling. My mood was somewhat dampened by having Covid for a week or so, but, even then, I was a lot more positive than I'd have expected.

- I have an inherited chromosomal abnormality called 'Leiden Factor V', that makes blood clot too readily. Long before the aetiology was known, it killed my grandmother (phlebitis), and my brother (pulmonary embolism). I am on warfarin for life to reduce the risk. I have, though, had a number of DVTs (Deep Vein Thromboses) in my left leg. So my let calf has been very swollen, red, hot to the touch, and with unpleasantly itchy veinous eczema... Over the past few weeks, this has change dramatically. I think it is largely a result of the anti-inflammatory nature of tirzepatide. The swelling has gone down so much that my left and right calves look fairly similar in size. The colour has changed from an angry red to a pinkish tinge. The eczema has almost completely gone, and the calf is no longer hot to the touch.

- I have always been prone to hayfever and atopic eczema. Over the past few weeks, the eczema has also almost completely disappeared, with no sores on my hands or elbows. It has been a profound and welcome change.

- I have found myself much more awake and alert, with much more energy than previously.

- I know that the reduction in 'food noise' is a common symptom, but I've been interested in how much it has changed my approach to carbohydrates, that I now seem mainly to be against. Usually, I'd have a piece of toast under eggs, and they seemed wrong, without it, but, now, they are perfectly OK on their own.

- The effect of alcohol, has changed. A glass of wine, that, previously, would have made little difference, now has me feeling quite squiffy, and, after a few glasses, I need to go to bed. We had, previously, had a few glasses of wine once a week, but now I feel, quite often, that I'd rather not have any.

OK. That's enough. Sorry to go on. As I said, I'm interested to know of you've had similar experiences.

-Although this may not be entirely relevant, I would still like to recommend that you check this out. It is a very useful website that helps me in some ways. I hope you find it useful too.

Wow, really interesting to read about such positive effects! The improvements in skin and energy levels are especially fascinating — that’s not something you often see mentioned in clinical reports. It does make you wonder if there’s some broader anti-inflammatory effect that’s still being underestimated. Definitely worth keeping track of these changes and sharing them with your doctor — could be really helpful in the long run. Also, make sure you’re staying well-hydrated; a lot of people find it helps with skin health and overall energy, especially while on meds like this.

Hi
That’s really interesting — thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds like Tirzepatide has done more for you than just lower blood sugar, the part about feeling more positive and having less inflammation really caught my attention, I’ve seen a few people mention similar things, but it’s great to hear a first-hand story.
I’m curious — how long did it take before you started noticing those changes (like mood or swelling improvement)? And have you had to adjust your food intake a lot since starting it, or did that happen naturally as your appetite changed? Thanks again for sharing — very encouraging to read!
The euphoria started a few days after my first 2.5mg jab. I was surprised it was so very quick, and strong, and I expected it'd be transitory. It is though, still with me 15 weeks later - I often feel the urge to laugh with delight, or whistle. It's nothing like being drunk, it's a sort of bubble of delight constantly just at the edge of awareness.

The swelling and inflammation in my calf, from the DVTs, was noticeably reduced after about a month or six weeks in. It has continued to get better, and the venous eczema has all but gone. My left leg is now only a couple of cm wider than my right, which is hardly visible, and it is a pale pink, instead of an angry red.

My atopic eczema has cleared up.

I do feel the cold much more acutely.

It has also played havoc with my INR. I take warfarin because of the DVT, and my INR shot up to 7. The interaction is obviously very new, and not well understood. I foind two case studies, one in which the INR dropped, during tirzepatide, and one where it got up to 9 and the pstient died.

My blood pressure has been dropping fairly consistently, down to healthy levels, mainly.

Oh, I've almost stopped drinking. We had enjoyed a bottle of wine together about once a week, but now, after a big glass of wine, I feel quite unpleasantly drunk, slurring words, staggering, drunk, and nauseous. I have found that cider, which is less than half as strong [5% vs. 14-16%], mixed with kombucha (yes, it sounds horrible, but doesn't taste too bad), half-and-half, getting the ABV down to ~2% allows me to have a few glasses, with my wife, before I have to go and lie down.

Oh, and the food maunly just adjusts itself. I feel full quickly, after not eating much, and stay feeling full for some time. I hardly ever even think about having a snack. Sometimes I find it mid-afternoon, and I've forgotten to have lunch.

I also find that I am much less interested in carbohydrates.

The common metaphor of 'food noise disappearing' is a very good one
