Yes it is possible for teenagers and young children to get diabetes. It is most likely an autoimmune disorder at this age.

I got T 1 at 17 so answer is yes. We know it’s an autoimmune disease what causes it well Thats the million dollar question. There are varying theories from trauma to infection even childbirth. I’m 63 now so I’ve had it most of my life I’m use to it now dont even think about it just get on with it

I was diagnosed at eleven months. There are several autoimmune conditions in my family but I was the only diabetic. It may have been sparked by 7 wasp stings, but that cannot be proved.

I was 8 years old
t1 occurs due to autoimmune aggression. We are born with an immune system prone to this, and during our lifetime something (illness/stress/anything) can provoke it, so that it begins to kill not viruses, but cells that produce insulin.
No one in my family had any health problems.

I was diagnozed aged 7 and now 57.
My last hba1c was 39 or 5.7 which is good.
We had little or no tech back in the day so with all the wonders of today there is no reason why newly diagnozed diabetics can't live a normal life....
