Mounjaro, Insulin & Weight Loss

Hi I am just finishing my first week on Mounjaro 2.5. I haven’t had any side effects and my appetite has been suppressed, blood sugar levels are significantly lower. I’ve lost 7lb. I’m so pleased, my weight was 10st 3lbs back in December 2022. Before Mounjaro I had gone up to 18st. I’m a type 1 diabetic. I first asked for help when I weighed 13st. So pleased I have finally got some but annoying I had to wait until I was this heavy.

Just come off Mounjaro. I went on it as after years of trying to lose weight with Type 2 I was struggling despite strictly controlled carbs, calories and exercise. At first I succeeded in getting my levels to normal range, lost weight, but over time the weight crept back and the best I could do with blood sugar was to “prediabetic” range.

I pleaded with my GP to get Mounjaro but a bmi of 31 meant ai wasn’t eligible. Took up availability with my MP, and he with Sec of State but NHS still will not prescribe this for T2s unless you are morbidly obese.

Had no choice but to do it privately through the pharmacy. I succeeded in getting even my fasting bs levels to normal and shifted 16kg. I never went above 5 mg. Never felt fitter, and more energized since my prediabetes diagnosis in 2015.

Taperedfown to 2.5 from 5mg and then stopped. Within a week my blood sugar levels rocketed. I’ve put back on 1.4 kg. I feel tired. I’m now eating less and exercising more.Financially, I can no longer afford the treatment.

Oh, I managed to come off 12 years of antidepressants treatment and now feel I’ve been plunged back into massive mood swings and anger. I had no idea that the change would be as quick or as dramatic.

Have you tried HRT ? Don't know what sex you are. Not being rude. But I think extra hormones might be worth a try for everyone.. I did lose nearly 3 stone at first. It gave me the kick to start. The Male nhs doctor actally changed it for a different type. And all the weight went back on.
I'm trying Mj now but dosnt seem to be working for weight loss. Or glucose control been on 2.5 since November going up to 5 this week.
So see what happens.
Good luck with your journey , hope you find what you need. x

Yes, I am a woman. Interesting you should mention HRT. I had a hysterectomy aged 47 and was offered nothing. It was hell. Not only that I was put on a drug called Prostap to block oestrogen which was fuelling my uterine fibroids. Was on it for 5 months. It’s actually a drug used to treat prostate cancer in men. 3 months after my hysterectomy I was struggling so badly with fatigue that GP tested for diabetes. I was diagnosed pre-diabetes. I’m convinced the whole hormone thing, op, Prostap drug are linked. I suffered very badly with stress and depression after this point and was given antidepressants. I think that was wrong and maybe hrt would have been the right treatment.

I’m 59 now so doubt very much hrt would be considered. After a long struggle I’m finally off the antidepressants and I’m determined not to go back on. I believe Mounjaro helped with my MH and my mood swings after coming off have been awful.

There is so much going on with diabetes isn’t there.
