Type 1 blood suger dropping in hot weather

It’s relatively common as blood vessels dilate in heat which can cause insulin to be absorbed quicker - I find hot weather and a combination of my regular dose of insulin + exercise is a disaster for my blood sugar. From my personal experience I tend to dose less for my meals to account for the hot weather and what affect it may have on my sugars, I’m on a pump closed loop so if I do give too little my pump will correct me anyway.

I always make sure in general to have hypo treatment around me but even more so in the heat. I also try to limit myself on what I’m doing during hot weather days.

I am not type 1 am type 2 but it also happens to us as well
yesterday when it was very hot and I walked 5 miles my level was 2.8 when I got back finger prick test

Hi,

Yes. I seem to be quite insulin sensitive in the heat.

I tend to have to lower my basal dose a little the night before a heatwave forecast or if holidaying in hotter climates? Regardless of activity levels.

Hello,
The insulin works '' better '' because your veins getting wider. I think you must do alittle more than trusting your pump and sensor. For instance if I eat 80 grammes of carbohydrate with tropical temperature i will ask my pump to suggest the recommended dose of insulin and only use half of what is recommends.
What also works is reducing your basal dose with a certain percentage. Usually i will reduce it with 50% when i am in a tropical country.
Or '' tell '' the pump to regulate it to higher value because with a lower value in Vietnam it will not take a lot of '' exercise '' to make it go down to much.
IF i am right your body will need extra water to be able to make the insulin work properly.
Greetings, Eduard
