Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
Quiet forum!

I am struggling with my BG management.
This is a mental thing.
I can get good bloods if I go minimal carbs but it makes me permanently miserable.

Next step (as far as I can see) for me is Gliclazide or insulin.
I am wary of insulin, although Gliclazide carries some of the same hypo risk.

Reading the NHS details, is says that Gliclazide is sometimes prescribed as an alternative to Metformin.
I have been on Metformin for nearly two decades so having a rest from it might be a good thing.
I have no idea if it is still working.

So finally to the point.
Has anyone gone on Gliclazide and stopped Metformin?
If so, how does that work for you?

I reduced my Metformin and added Gliclazide 11 years ago. It worked for several years but with hindsight it didn’t give me ideal HbA1c…..and then it didn’t work at all.

I’m now on insulin with much better control, and the ability to eat a few more carbs when I want to. I wish I’d opted for insulin years ago.

I’d be interested in this too @LittleGreyCat, I’ve also been on Metformin a good bit longer than I’ve been T2 without problems, I’ve recently been diagnosed with another condition not related to diabetes which I have to take a medication for that has the same side effects as Metformin. I’ve been have real stomach problems for the first time. It’s been awful for the past few months. I haven’t taken my Metformin for 2 days and I’m completely back to normal, no problems.it seem I’m able to cope with one med but not both together. (I can’t stop the new med, it’s vital I take it)

It’s also very important that I now eat a low fat diet for the new condition so struggling a little bit to keep to my keto less than 20g carb a day.

I have a GP appointment next week and after looking at all the other meds that are available I’m thinking of asking for a minimum dose of Gliclizide, I was on max dose years ago so know how to handle it, but managed to get off it with keto diet. As I always say no shame in needing meds - the goal is to have good numbers, it’s not a completion on who can get the lowest without meds

I haven’t needed them for 10 years but things change so sometimes we have to too.

Do you think that perhaps it burned out what remained of the Beta cells in your pancreas.
That has always been one of my concerns about anything which artificially boosts the pancreas.
