New on this brilliant sight. Have been type 2 since 2010, diet controlled. Last Ha1bc 6 weeks ago 6.4. Has been well managed. Four weeks ago I had surgery, patathyroidectomy. Since then my blood sugars, finger prick testing have been raised. Ive put myself on a low carb diet. After 2 hours after main meal my levels are acceptable. Then when I test in the morning they are 8.0. Surgery a total success, just stressed out now I carnt return to my normal controlled diet and readings.
Appreciate any advice please Thank you.

Hi @mrbluesky57 & welcome to the forum :)

Any illness, surgery or medication can have an affect on BG numbers for a while. It’s how our body reacts to the trauma. I have no advice for you as you seem to be doing everything right in reducing your carbs etc. fasting numbers are usually the ones that tend to come down last & unfortunately it’s the one we can do least about. Many things affect BG along side what we eat etc. you maybe haven’t been moving around so much after your surgery. Keep doing what your doing and eating low carb & keeping those numbers in range and eventually you could get back to lower FBG, but try not to stress about it as stress is a big factor on our BG too.

My personal experience is I’ve been T2 for 16 years & have an HbA1c of 47, with my numbers before & after meals ranging from the low 4s to low 6s but I’ve never been able to get my FBG below 7, nothing I can do so I just accept it and concentrate on the numbers I can do something about

As a new member I cannot thank you enough for sharing that info with me. My daughter has told me the same.. So very reassuring to hear from. Unfortunately anxiety has been part of for many years. Daughter put me on low carb diet. Really educated me, bread isnt cheap but decent. Other things ive changed will stick to. Thank you so much for taking the time, its fits in. Thanks to the moderators as i had posted twice. Wished Id have joined earlier...Thank you, appreciated.

You’re welcome :)

Have a good read around the forum & ask any questions you have. It’s lovely your daughter has taken such an interest & is helping you. I don’t know if you & her have seen the DietDoctor site but it helped me enormously when I first started low carb then moved to keto - it has lots of free recipes, meal plans & articles & charts of the best and not so good low carb items - just google DietDoctor and you’ll find it. It does have a monthly subscription but I never found the need as there was enough for free

Thank you once again. I will look into more low carb foods. Think im mixed keto atm..Bare naked noodles, fitbakes bread. Really happy with that, low carb wraps. I think your right. It seems to be coming down to what it was. I was 9.1s in morning, 7.8 today.
After meals 7.4 & 7.3. I can thanks to my daughter and yourself see some positives. Bit more energy to walk which helps and my m/h.
Thanks again for reaching out.
